I just learned about Web Search and I think it's a great new service!

I've posted a brief overview (BMDB only) of my research for years on my own site and on WorldConnect in an effort to establish contact with cousins or other researchers interested in the same lines. Posting on my own site has been successful in establishing contacts by cousins casually Googling an ancestor's name. But unless the name is fairly uncommon it's often difficult for people to find the name on my site with all the "noise" from current listings of similar names.

WorldConnect used to work well, but since RootsWeb has become less prominent and Ancestry has stopped including WorldConnect listing in search results, I'm receiving almost no contacts from there.

It's clear to me that getting returns on Ancestry searches is the key to reaching the broadest number of cousins interested in family history. So I've looked at uploading my data to an Ancestry Tree, but there are a number of problems with that from my prospective, which I've discussed with the folks at Ancestry responsible for that product.

I see this as a better solution - my data gets indexed, much better than on Google, etc., because it's focused on genealogical data, and because dates and places are associated with names so searches have potential to find the right person when there are many of similar names. Like Google, but unlike an Ancestry Tree, the user who wants more than a name and a date has to come to my site, where he or she will see my sources, notes, and cautions, and my invitation to correspond.

Even users who simply attach my names and dates to their trees will have that data sourced to my site, and they and others who see their tree will have links to my site attached to it.

I'm having a hard time figuring out how Ancestry could do this better. Thanks, Brian, et al.

I've already submitted my site for inclusion.
