My great grandfather was born in Cape Verde - REpublic of Senegal on 21/5/1856. This information appears on his naturalization papers in Australia. I am seeking any information about Joao Preira. His family moved to the Canary Islands and I believe he had 5 sisters. His father owned/ran a sugar plantation on the Canary Islands. Joao jumped aboard a ship at about the age of 14/15. That is about all the information I have of him. He jumped ship in Tasmania, Australia.
