My 2nd great grandparents paternal side came from various islands on Cape Verde immigrating as early as 1875 to the United States. Basically they settled in the area called "Fox Point" in Providence, Rhode Island. I am seeking more information on the following people and other resources if known to discover more information on these people:
Joaquin Varella Gomes, born 1845, immigrated to the US in 1875 according to the 1920 US Census Records in Rhode Island. According to his death certificate from Providence, he was born at St. Jacobs, Santiago Island, Cape Verde. He married about 1885 to Anicerta (Anna) daSilva (later Silva) and they had 8 children or more, the couple resided in the "Fox Point" Area of Providence, Rhode Island.
One of their children, Maria "Tia" Gomes my great-grandmother was born in Providence, Rhode Island on September 12, 1888 and she married Joseph Baptista Bento who was born February 25, 1883 on Maio, Cape Verde Islands. Joseph immigrated to the US about 1900 or so. The couple had 9 children. Maria is "the 2nd wife" of Joseph Baptista Bento. I am looking to find more information and resources (i.e., ship's name, etc.) on Joseph and his in-laws above. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you.
