Hello! This is a long shot, but out of desperation, here it goes. My great grandfather was Luis Daniel Pereira, born on Santo Antao in 1888, but moving to Sao Vicente and working at the harbor (apparently this harbor was a draw for his single mom looking for work - maybe this is the major port you are talking about?) on the boat docks in Mindelo. He got this job through is step-father who was a crane operating engineer, unloading coal from the ships. We don't have any certain names beyond my great grandfather, Luis Daniel Pereira, however, when my great grandfather moved to Massachusetts in 1914, he lists a Pedro Carlos dos Reis as his Father and next of kin in the place from whence he came (Cape Verde). I'm wondering if this man listed was his step-father? And if so, has anyone heard this name? And is there a connection to the Dos Reis' that are being talked about here? Any tips at all would be great!
