Looking for ethiopian roots

I have discovered that my great grandfather and his brother listed their race as ethiopian on the WW1 draft registration cards. They were living in Palestine, Texas which is in Anderson County. They were born in 1888 and 1889. That's as far as I can get. I am trying to find their parents and how did they get to America. The surname is Robinson. I have always been stopped and asked if I was ethiopian! It feels great to finally be able to connect with others who look like me!Help if you can, please!!!

I know this is an old thread so it may go un-answered now, but just a hint for you; Asmara wasn't in Ethiopia, it was in Eritrea, and that is where most of the Italians lived. My Mother was born in 1937 in Adi Ugri, Eritrea and then was raised in Asmara Eritrea. She lived there until 1961 where she then married my Father who was stationed there at Kagnew Station (U.S. Army communications post) so I wonder if she knew your Father as well? Her name was Elena Cunna; her father was Loiso Cunna.

After World War 2 the U.K and the U.N gave Eritrea to Ethiopia to "manage" the country (which is where the confusion comes from) but an immediate war that finally ended in the 1990s established Eritrea as an independent country. But even my Mother's birth certificate references as Eritrea, not Ethiopia... so hoping this helps with your search, and hope you do see this and hope to hear if your Father grew up with my Mother!

My grand father AldoBaratti was born in Poggio Milteto Rieti,he came to Asmara Eritrea circa 1890-1900 with his family.Asmara was an Italian colony he married my grandmother Anita Anna Boglioli circa 1920,had three children ,my aunty Iole boglioli born in 029/06/1921 died in 124/11/1965.Mario born in 25/10/1928 died in march 2011 in America Italian citizen Flavio my father born in 29/11/1929 died in 25/03/2011 in Australia,Italian citizen,they have cousins that reside in Adis Abeba own a Hotel,have Johannesbourg in South Africa,my grandfather had two brother's Emilio baratti and Quido Baratti.

I am looking for information on Armenag Gurunlian, born in the Armenian Ottoman Empire, they was in an orphanage in Syria where he joined the French foreign legion, then went to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Sarah Holley lived in Chowan NC as Sarah Hawkins before she married Lorenzo Dow Holley.

Great Great Grandma Louise COLAR, born 1805 was taken to New Orleans in 1800's along with family members all children from Mauritius on three ships. The Phie Germain Oudin, The Benoit Ollier and (looks like) Lierie Bertiano. The children were born from 1801 t0 1816.

Grandma, Sarah Holley, born 1871 came from generations of people named Hawkins from North Carolina. I have not found their original homeland.

Sad to read that she passed away.

I had a close contact with her in my 20's. My mother took me with her one day to visit HIH Princess Teenager Worq which she always did once every week or month I don't remember but she accepts visitors to her palace. So my mother told me before we enter her room that I should be polite and should bow down and kiss her shoes (which is normal in our tradition) but after we enter and I saw her beauty and attendants I was forgot all about what my mother told me and when she asked me to come closer to kiss me I did not compromise I went ahead and let her kiss me on my chick. (my mother was mad at me for doing that) Then mother talked to her I don't know what but she was granted a land in one of the best areas in Addis and my mother bowed down several times and off we went. The land was letter on taken by the socialist government.

I have a nice memory about her.

My father is from Ethiopia and came here in 1983, approximately. He settled in Indiana, after escaping the corrupt government, through missionaries in Fort Wayne. I am also interested in tracing my ancestors. My maden name is Ayelle, also spelled Ayele. If you find an answer to how this is possible, could you please keep me informed?

My Grandmother told me her father was from Ethiopia. His name was Ezekiel "Zeke" McCray which is probably a mispronounciation of the name Mekuriya. He was born in 1886, he died in 1966 in m Miss.USA. I've been told that many Etiopians left their country on missionary ships to Europe and the USA. I also understand that these Ethipians stayed and bagan families put continued to stay in touch with relatives back home by telegraph at the post office. His name was Reginald Stanley Annan
He was a missionary in Addis Abeba Abyssinia Africa and Married a Mary Emily Orme on 2/11/1930 in Addis Abeba
his eldest son was born in Walamo Ethiopa in 1932
He died as a result of a car accident in Mombassa Africa in 1960.

Princess Tenagne Worq, daughter and advisor of Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia, died on April 6, 2003. Born on January 29, 1912, she was the eldest and only surviving child of the Emperor. She was 18 when her father ascended the throne in 1930 and always had a close relationship with her father. At a young age she married Ras Desta Bamtaw with whom she had four daughters and two sons. The Princess remarried in 1944 to Ras Andargatchew Massai. She was imprisoned together with her daughters from 1974 to 1989 and was then released. Seek more info on her family.

My husband's MGG left his family in New York in the 1930's and went to Ethiopia do get involved in diamond mining. He started a whole new family there and we'd like to find out if there are any LaRuffa family members listed anywhere. Can anyone help?

I am researching hannabus family too ( my mother is a hannabus) and have come to a standstill with regards to this lady.
Are you sure it is Ethiopia? my family do not know where he went/where she was from, Africa or the Islands off Australia have been mentioned...
I am the daughter of Beryl, who's father was Sidney Hannabus - I have seen a photo of John Hannabus ( Sidneys father - my g.grandfather), and he was very dark coloured - I am wondering if this lady was his mother?

hi can anyone help info i noin the time of john wesley founder of the methodist church his preachers were sent world wide one convert was a hanabuss sent to north africa province of ethopia he married a ethopian lady who was his house keeper he bought her back to england which caused a scandel in thoes days she was a black lady name unknown our family thru the generations bear a resemblance to her but we no nothing about her thou she lived in devon my dad can remeber her in 1930 or around that time any info would be a great help thank

Hi! I am trying to find out where are all the cusins of my dad.
My grandmother (born in Catania) was living in Lybia during the italian colony and than left to Ethiopia (Asmara).
She was called Lucia Burgio and was married to Vitolo and later to Vincenzo Maggio.
I hope to find part of this family which we lost communication.
