Hi.
I am trying to help my Dad find his uncle Phillip John Mahoney (he may have gone by Jack). He was born and raised in Bristol, England, departed for Canada from 1923 - 1928, then went to the Gold Coast (Ghana) between 1928-1929 or so. He was a supervisor of a foundry in SA. We have no other info.
The family had never heard from him again, but it appears he made several trips back to Bristol corresponding with the death of his parents, etc. At one point in the 1940's (1947, I believe), he sailed to Canada with a wife whose name is Eveline Grace and they had with them a 7 and 2 year old (???).
In other areas, we have record of an APAPA Ship (Steamship line is Elder or Elden landing in Lagos and another (1947) landing at the port of Takoradi. So I'm not sure if this provides a region or not.
We seem to be unable to find death records in UK, so we are now searching SA, but I really don't know where to look.
We also see on this site a Border crossing for Peter John and Eveline Canada to US (1895-1957 Border crossings) and we see another Peter John on a Passenger List 1820-1957 arriving in New York. Since I cannot access it, I have no idea of dates.
This is such a mystery to us. I do not possess a credit card to seek this out further and I don't think this site allows for debit purchases from Canada, so I feel really stuck!
We just would love to know more about Peter John (Engineer) and his wife Eveline Grace and what and where they finally came to rest. It means a lot to my Father, so I'm helping him out.
Does anyone have any guidance? Thanks in advance for any help you may provide, or if you knew anything of Peter John Mahoney and Eveline Grace and any children they may have had.
Regards,
Diane
