After WW1 my father continued to work in the mines where he contracted pneucomiousis(? spelling). Later he worked in what was then Tanganyika where he met and married my mother. They moved to Kenya during WW2 and lived there till 1953 when Mau Mau forced a return to UK.
I have also found a reference to an Afrikaans speaking brigade of S.A.F.A. and wonder if he was attached to that as he was fluent in the language
