I'm trying to locate the military records of an ancestor who is referenced on the India Office Record of his sons' birth.

The reference is James Arnold Hornett “Cpt., 52nd N.I.”

The record comes from Bengal so I am guessing that's the 52nd regiment of Bengal Native Infantry. The record is dated 11 May 1839.

Does anyone have any ideas or is anyone able to point me in the right direction to try and locate these records, something like the Army List would be a wonderful place to start.

I know that the 52nd mutinied and I cannot trace James elsewhere past this date.
