I heard of the Filipinos who jumped ship while on the way to Mexico but I take it, given the date, that wasn't the case with your ancestor.

But back then, I'm not sure how your ancestor would've gone to the USA. Unless he got on a ship on the way to Mexico but by that time the galleon trade had stopped.

The trick is figuring out how he got there. Was it from another country, and perhaps he ended going from that country (Peru, Chile, etc.) and then into the Gulf of Mexico and ended up in N. Orleans? Or via California somehow, and then made his way to N. Orleans?

How did you find out he was from the Phils? Did he show up in the USA census recs?
