Well, I as well as other people I've researched don't come from wealthy families, but records were not limited to the wealthy. That isn't how the records were kept. They kept records of everyone, or should've been everyone in the area.

But try to focus on the actual facts and the records that are available rather than making up some type of possible scenario without evidence to prove it was so.
