Surnames: Barsaga, Gidican, Gedican, Gidacan, Gidacon
I'm trying to piece my family's history together and on my grandfather's side we can only trace it back to his father Joseph (Jose) Gidican who was born in Cebu in 1888. Story has it that his family's original name is Barsaga but when he fled the Philippines to come to the U.S. he changed his last name to Gidican at customs (legend is Gidican was the name of his neighbors). It's spelt Gidican, Gedican, Gidacan and Gidacon in several different U.S. Census and draft documents. Barsaga is what we believe to be the family name our family had on Cebu and we haven't seen any other spelling of it.
