Subject: JAMES HARTLEY British Soldier Stationed in Ceylon 1817
Date: Fri, 17 Aug 2001 17:36:32 +1000

I am searching for information relating to a British soldier, JAMES HARTLEY (native of Leeds, England), who was tried and convicted in Jaffna, Ceylon on 8 October 1817. He was sentenced to penal servitude for "life" and was subsequently transported to Australia on board the "Greyhound" in 1819.

I would appreciate any advice that could assist me to identify James Hartley's regiment and enable me to obtain details of his conviction and other information from his military record.
