In 1881 there were three SHORT families in Ivinghoe into which Edith Short could have been born. The possible parents were Richard and Deborah SHORT or George and Jemima SHORT, both families of Back Lane, Ivinghoe, and Ebenezer and Mercy Ann SHORT of Ivinghoe town.

There was only one WESLEY family living in Cheddington, headed by David and Sarah WESLEY, living in Station Road with seven children.
