Hello Jim,
I located the baptism indexes for Charlotte Martin and five of her siblings at the Latter Day Saints (LDS) website at
www.familysearch.orgThe baptism indexes each show that the parents of the Martin children are Thomas Martin and Mary. Mary’s maiden name however, is not given in the indexes, and I don’t believe it will be in the full baptism records. The baptisms of the Martin children took place in the Eton, Bucks, Church of England. Charlotte’s baptism occurred on 22 February 1835. The name of the church, I believe, is St John the Evangelist. Charlotte’s baptism index follows:

Charlotte’s baptism record can be found in LDS microfilm number 0919643. You can order this film from your local Family History Center.
The following are the LDS baptism indexes for the older and younger siblings of Charlotte Martin. These include Thomas (1831), David (1833), Ann (1836), Henry (1838), and Sarah (1840). All the children were baptized in Eton. The baptism records for these children can be found in the same LDS microfilm as the baptism for Charlotte. After the birth indexes for the two youngest children, Henry and Sarah, I’ve included their General Register Office (GRO) birth indexes. These indexes cite where the full birth records of Henry and Sarah can be found in the GRO registers. Their birth certs will tell you their mother’s maiden name:

Based on her LDS baptism index, I found what I believe to be Sarah Martin’s GRO birth index. This is the only birth index I could locate for a Sarah Martin registered in the Eton district for March quarter of 1840. Parents’ names aren’t provided in the GRO indexes, which means I’m 99 percent sure the index below is for the daughter of Thomas and Mary Martin. Sarah’s birth record can be found in Volume 6, Page 379 of the GRO registers:

You can order Mary and Sarah’s birth records from the GRO website at:
http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/The least expensive method of ordering GRO certificates is to order them online, and by providing the volume , and page numbers from the birth indexes for Sarah and Mary Martin.
Before ordering certificates online, you will need to type in your email address and provide a password to log in to the site.
The GRO link to log onto the site can be found at:
https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/Login.aspThe cost of a certificate by ordering online is £7.00.
Information in the birth indexes will include the children’s dates of birth, and as noted earlier, Mary’s maiden name, plus Thomas’s occupation, and the address(s) where the family had been living when each child was born.
I looked for the LDS marriage index for Thomas and Mary in Eton as well as in all of Buckinghamshire, in hopes that I would learn what Mary’s maiden name was, but I didn’t find their marriage index. They may have married in Eton, but the LDS had not placed all of their indexes online to date. Or, it’s possible that Thomas and Mary were married in another county. If you find what Mary’s maiden name is from Mary and Sarah’s birth records, you’ll have the information you need to look for the marriage of Thomas Martin and Mary, though there are no guarantees that their marriage record will have been placed online to date.
Next, I found Charlotte Martin, her parents Thomas and Mary, and her siblings in the 1841 census at the Ancestry.com subscription website. The census shows the Martin family living in an address of Brocas Street, Eton, Buckinghamshire. The enumeration shows that 35 year old Thomas is working as a labourer and that he was born in the county, that is, Buckinghamshire. His 35 year old wife Mary was born in Buckinghamshire, as were all their children, including 10 year old Thomas, 5 year old David, 5 year old Charlotte, 4 year old Ann, and 1 year old Sarah. Thomas and Mary’s daughter Sarah is not in the census as the indexes for her noted earlier show that she was born and baptized in Eton in 1843. Also in the Martin household is 55 year old Thomas Cook, a labourer who was not born in Buckinghamshire. Unless otherwise indicated, all census transcriptions in this reply are from Ancestry.com:

I next looked for the Martin family in the 1851 census and found them. But Charlotte is not in the household, located in an address of Hales Buildings, Eton. This enumeration shows that Thomas Martin is a 45 year old carman, born in Burnham, Buckinghamshire. His 47 year old wife Mary was also born in Burnham. The five children in the household were all born in Eton. These include 19 year old Thomas, working as a coal porter; 17 year old David, employed as a carpenter; 13 year old Henry, 11 year old Sarah, and 7 year old Mary, all scholars or students:

I then found the person I believe to be Charlotte Martin in the 1851 census, showing that she was working as a servant in the household of John and Mary Lawrence in a street address I could not decipher, in New Windsor, Berkshire. The Ancestry.com index for Charlotte notes that she is John Lawrence’s sister, but upon accessing a copy of the original census from Ancestry.com, I saw that her relationship to Lawrence was not sister, but “Servant.”
This census is very difficult to read, but I managed to extract from the enumeration that Charlotte was 16 years old and born in Eton, Buckinghamshire. I couldn’t make out 49 year old John Lawrence’s occupation, but the census shows that he too was born in Eton. His wife Mary Ann is listed as being 48 years old. I couldn’t tell where she was born however:

A search of the 1861 census shows that Charlotte’s father, mother, and brother Henry were living in an address of No. 12 Atherton’s Yard, Eton. Finding Charlotte in the 1861 census was a bit of a challenge, as she is listed as Charlotte “Masters.” But, she is still working as a servant in the household of John and Mary Lawrence in New Windsor, Berkshire. The street address of the household is 15 Brunswick Terrace. John Lawrence is shown to be a 61 year old “Yeoman in Her Majesty’s Service.” Under the section for his date of birth, in parenthesis, are the words (Don’t Know). It’s possible that neither John or his wife Mary had filled in the census schedule, as his place of birth would be obvious to them. It may be that Charlotte filled in the schedule, or perhaps it was filled in by a neighbor.
John’s wife, Mary A. Lawrence, is shown to be 53 years old and born in Benthall, Salop (Shropshire). Charlotte is 26 years old and born in Eton:

By the 1871 census Charlotte was married to Moses Shellard, and from viewing your pedigree chart, I see that you have records of her and her husband Moses Shellard up to the 1901 census.
I found Moses and Charlotte Shellard in the 1911 census at the 1911census.co.uk pay-as-you-go website. I had credits left over from previous searches at this website, and downloaded a transcription of Moses and Charlotte Shellard, which notes they were living in a street address of 15 Devereux Road, Windsor, Berkshire. Moses is shown to be a “Clerk Pensioner Formerly Farmer Private Means,” born in Dyrham, Gloucester. Charlotte is 76 years old and shown to be married to Moses for 43 years. The Eton district recorded births, marriages, and death for several towns and parishes in Buckinghamshire, including

http://www.ukbmd.org.uk/genuki/reg/districts/eton.htmlI didn’t see any further information about Annie Mary Shellard in your pedigree beyond the 1891 census. I looked for a GRO marriage as well as a GRO death index for an Annie Mary Shellard, and found one which may pertain to her. This index shows her death recorded in the Windsor district for the March quarter of 1892. Her age at death is 22. The reason I think this may be your Annie Mary Shellard is that just the year before, in the in the 1891 census, your records show she is a 21 year old. Her death record can be found in Volume 2c, Page 441 of the GRO registers. I also notice from your pedigree chart that you have the civil marriage index for John Shellard and Florence May Chalk. The marriage record should provide you with the name of Florence’s father. But, based on the information in the pedigree chart, noting that Florence was born in Marylebone, London, I found her combination baptism/birth record, showing that her parents were John and Jemima Eliza Chalk. Her baptism record was found in Ancestry.com’s “London, England, Births and Baptisms, 1813-1906,” digitized from records held by the London Metropolitan Archives.
The baptism record and accompanying source citation, show that Florence’s baptism took place in Christ Church, Saint Marylebone, on May 18, 1873. As noted previously, her parents are John and Jemima Eliza Chalk. The record also shows that Florence was born on 19 April 1893. At the time of her baptism she and her family were living in an address of 5 Edmond Place. Her father’s occupation is blacksmith. I couldn’t make out the last name of the clergyman who baptized Florence, but his initials appear to be R.W.

Eliza Chalk, 34 years old, was born in St. Martin’s, Middlesex. The children in the household, both from Marylebone, Middlesex, are 13 year old Thomas and 7 year old Florence. Their daughter Alice is not in the household.

The following is what I believe to be the GRO death index for John and Jemima Eliza Chalk’s daughter, Alice. The index shows that Alice’s death was recorded in the Marylebone Registration District for the March quarter of 1872. She was 3 years old at the time she died. A year earlier, the 1871 census had shown that she was 2 years old. Alice’s death record can be found in Volume 1a, Page 414 of the GRO registers:

In the 1891 census John and Eliza Chalk and two of their children were living in an address of 1 River Street, New Windsor, Berkshire. John is a 48 year old blacksmith born Witham, Essex. Eliza is 51 years old. Her birthplace is given as Colchester, Essex. Previous census enumerations had shown her birthplace was St. Martin’s, Middlesex. The two children in the household, both born in Marylebone, are 25 year old blacksmith Thomas Chalk and 17 year old Florence Chalk. Also in the household are 63 year old labourer George Wilson from a place that appears to be Dalchet, Buckinghamshire, and 56 year old groom, Frank Crosby from Farnham, Surrey:

The 1901 census shows that John Chalk’s wife is not Jemima Eliza (or Eliza as she was listed in the past two census enumerations), but to Sarah A. Chalk, indicating that Jemima had died between the 1891 and 1901 census returns. John and Sarah are living in No. 2 River Street, New Windsor. In the 1891 census they were living in 1 River Street. John is shown to be a 57 year old grocer, shopkeeper, and blacksmith, born in Witham, Essex. Sarah is a 53 year old grocer born in Windsor, Berkshire. Living in No. 1 River Street is 32 year old wheelwright John Chalk. He is listed as a “son,” born Marylebone, London, but I had not come across any records that John Chalk Sr. had a son. This younger John Chalk’s father may have been away when the census was taken on 31 March, meaning that his father and John Chalk living in No. 2 River Street, may have been brothers, but that’s just a guess:

Next I looked for Jemima Eliza Chalk’s GRO death index. I may have found it, though I can’t be sure this index pertains to her. The index shows that Eliza’s Chalk’s death was recorded in the Windsor district for the September quarter of 1894. Her age at death was 55. Her death record can be found in Volume 2c, Page 224 of the GRO registers:

Next I looked for John Chalk in the 1851 census, and found one census entry that may pertain to him and his family. The census shows that 7 year old John Chalk, born Witham, is living in the household of his parents, 46 year old farm labourer Thomas Chalk, born Witham, and 47 year old Hannah Chalk, born Hertfordshire. The other children in the household include 22 year old farm labourer Thomas; 10 year old Ada; 7 year old John; 5 year old James; and 10 month old Hannah. The next search involved looking for Jemima Eliza Lee in the LDS baptism indexes. I found that she was baptized in the Church of Saint Martin in the Fields, Westminster, London on 23 May 1847. Her date of birth was 14 February 1847. Her parents are listed as Thomas Lee and Eliza:

Jemima’s baptism and birth can be found in LDS microfilm number 0561148.
I only found one GRO birth index for a Jemima Lee in London for the year 1847. This index shows Jemima’s birth registered in the St. Pancras Registration District for the June quarter of 1847. The June quarter is the second quarter of the year. Her LDS baptism/birth index above shows she was born in February 1847. February is in the first quarter of the year. Her baptism took place in Saint Martin in the Fields. This area of London is in the St. Martin District, rather than in the St. Pancras district, which means I’m not sure this index refers to Thomas and Eliza’s Jemima Lee.
Jemima’s birth record can be found in Volume 1 of the St. Pancras registers, but, the volunteer at Free BMD who transcribed the GRO index could not tell if the page number in volume 1 is 225 or 325. This is indicated by [23]25 in the index. I accessed a copy of the original index and found it is difficult to read as it is hand written and faded in areas, but the page number appears to be 325. The index follows;

I didn’t find Jemima’s baptism record in Ancestry.com’s “London, England, Births and Baptisms, 1813-1906,” but I did locate the baptism records for four of her siblings at Ancestry.com, plus the baptisms of another four siblings at the LDS website. All eight baptisms took place in Saint Martin in the Fields.
First the baptism records from Ancestry.com: Four children of Thomas and Eliza Lee were baptized in the Church of Saint Martin in the Fields between 1849 and 1855. These children are Mary Ann, Harriet, Sarah and Hannah. Harriet and Sarah were baptized on the same day-June 25, 1853.
In three of the baptisms the address of the family is Bedford Court, or New Bedford Court. The baptism for Hannah in 1855 shows the family living in Angel Court. The baptism records also include the dates of birth for two of the children, Mary Ann and Harriet. Mary Ann was born on 7 January 1849, Harriet on 15 January 1855.
Thomas’s occupation in all four records is Coach Lace Weaver, an occupation I had never come across before.
Transcriptions of the four baptisms are below:

If you order Jemima Lee’s 1847 birth record from the GRO, see if her mother’s maiden name is Carpenter.
Next I located the family of Thomas and Eliza Lee in the 1851 census in the household of Amelia Levy in an address of 1 New Bedford Court, St. Martin in the Fields, Westminster. The baptisms of Mary Ann, Harriet, and Sarah had shown the family residing in Bedford Court or New Bedford Court. Though listed as a charwoman, it would appear that 32 year old widow Amelia Levy was also running a boarding house. Her 6 year old nephew is also in the household. Thomas Lee is shown to be a 26 year old coke and coal dealer born London, which is odd, as his occupation is coach lace weaver in the baptism records of four of his children, even the children born and baptized after the 1851 census. Thomas’s wife is 23 year old Eliza, born London. Their daughter J. Eliza Lee is 4 years old and born in London. Also in the household is 47 year old widow, Mrs. Ellen Young, born Kerry, Ireland. Her two daughters, also born Kerry, Ireland, are 20 year old Ann Young and 18 year old Ellen Young, both employed as book folders:

Jim, before ordering films of interest from the Family History Center and birth, marriage, or death records from the GRO in Southport, Merseyside, I recommend that you access the same LDS and GRO indexes that I did, to see if you agree that these indexes pertain to your ancestors or collateral ancestors. I haven’t been researching the Martin, Shellard, Lee, and related families, and wouldn’t have as much information about them as you may have. If you plan a great deal if research for British ancestors, I also recommend tying into one of the subscription packages offered by Ancestry.com, as you may find even more about your ancestors.
Best Wishes,
Dave Boylan
