Descendants of Benjamin Loyd Yates

Generation No. 1

1. BENJAMIN LOYD6 YATES (SAMUEL5, GEORGE JR4, GEORGE SR.3, JOHN2, THOMAS1) was born 03 Apr 1745 in Fredrick City, Frederick County, Maryland, and died 30 Jan 1849 in Manchester, Adams County, Ohio. He married SARAH ROBINSON Abt. 1795 in Frederick City, Frederick County, Maryland. She was born Abt. 1775 in Frederick County, Maryland.

Notes for BENJAMIN LOYD YATES:
The amazing thing about Benjamin Yates is that he lived to be 104 years old
during a time when there was little or no medicine. The 1800 census of Ashe
county, North Carolina has as follows:

Page 92, line 1 Yates, Benjamin
1 male 0-10 years of age
1 male 26-45+ years of age
1 female 0-10 years of age
1 female 16-26
Slaves 0

By the time the 1810 census was taken, Benjaman had left Ashe County, North Carolina. Benjamin was born in Frederick, City, Maryland. Frederick City is the
county seat of Frederick County, Maryland. Frederick county borders West Virginia.
The dividing line between Maryland and West Virginia is the Potomac River. Adams
County is where Benjamin Yates died. Adams County borders on Kentucky. The
Ohio River divides Adams County, Ohio from Kentucky. In 1803 Ohio became a
State and after this continuelly became more prosperious and populous. This
is when Benjamin Yates moved here from Ashe County, North Carolina. Ash County
borders on Tennessee, seperated by Stone Mountain.

Notes for SARAH ROBINSON:
The 1800 Census has Sarah between the age of 16-26. Benjamin was 55 years of age.

He married PEARLIE FILLINGAME 1907 in Purvis, Lamar County, Mississippi. She was born 23 Apr 1888 in Marion County, Mississippi, and died 1950 in Purvis, Mississippi.

Notes for ALBERT QUITMAN BROADUS:
Albert is buried in the Broadus cemetary that is just west of Purvis, Ms., his wife Pearlie
is next to him. Albert Quitman Broadus was an attorney at law in Purvis, Ms., and he also
served as suprentendant. Granddaddy's big event was to buy watermelon and call his
children and grandchildren over, and he would make a big thing of cutting the watermelon
and handing it out to everyone, and he would be beaming from ear to ear. He also took
pride in the fact that his son Lloyd (Let), was a medical doctor and had his practice there in
Purvis. He would walk around town asking people if they had seen his son the doctor, to
feed his ego. He was a good man who was too generous to all, and some people took advantage
of that.
A. Q. Broadus was born in Covington County, Ms. on Dec. 24, 1881, the son of Matthew Hiram
Broadus, and Demaris Yates. His wife Pearlie was the daughter of Daniel Fillingame and Angeline
Horsely. Pearlie was born 23 April 1888, in Marion County, Mississippi. Her siblyings were Sarah,
Joseph, Seburn, John, Archelis, and Martin. A.Q. and Pearlie were married in Purvis, Mississippi,
on 4 September 1907, by the Rev. Abner Bryant. Their witness were A.D. Nickles and Angie Nickles.
Pearlie was a school teacher and housewife until her death in 1950.
A.Q. was a school teacher and lawyer, and suprentendant of Schools for Lamar County. He also
served on the draft board during world war 2.
Albert Quitman served on the Board of Trustee for the Lamar County Agricultural High School
in 1910.
Registry for the military draft in 1918 has the following Broadus people in Lamar County Ms.

Albert Quitman Broadus born 29 December 1861
Edward Randolph Broadus born 6 May 1879
Eugene Jasper Broadus born 24 September 1877
Ira Levy Broadus born 8 December 1879
Theron Albert Broadus born 9 Sept. 1899

Albert Quitman Broadus was born in Covington County, Mississippi on Dec. 24 1881. The son of Matthew Hiram Broadus and Demaris Yates Broadus
Albery Quitman Broadus was married on 4 September 1907 in Purvis Mississippi to Pearlie Fillingame by the Rev. Abner Bryant. Their witnesses were A. D. Nichols and Angie Nichols.
Pearlie was the daughter of Daniel and Angeline Housley Fillingame. Pearlie was born 23 April 1888 in Marion County, Mississippi.
Pearlie was a school teacher and housewife.
Albert Quitman Broadus was a school teacher and lawyer and also served as superintendent of education for Lamar County, Mississippi. He also served on the Draft Board during World War 1 and World War 11. He also served as Deacon in the
of The First Baptist Church of Purvis, Mississippi. He also served as Sunday school teacher there. Albert Quitman Broadus and Pearlie Fillingame Broadus are buried in the Coletown Cemetary, in the Broadus section along with all his sons, Hilbert Canon
Broadus, Albert Quitman Jr. Broadus, Temple Gordon Broadus, and Lloyd Zedric Broadus.
Once Mrs. Ulmer of Purvis asked Temple Gordon Broadus what he contributed the success of Albert Quitman Broadus and Pearlie Fillingame Broadus's family, and
without hesitation Temple Gordon said the prayers of my father.

Notes for PEARLIE FILLINGAME:
Grandmother was a good person who enjoyed playing dominoes and chinese checkers with her
Grandchildren. She told me when she was a little girl and the river fooded, her and her family had
to get in the loft of the barn because the water was so high. After a couple of days someone came
with a boat and saved them. Another time she was in her living room, and all of a sudden there
was a loud noise and she said she looked up and the roof was gone and she could see stars.
It was probably the 1808 Cyclone that hit Purvis, Mississippi, and killed 200 people. She took me
to the circus in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, we went by train, and when a man was fired out of a canon
the sparks caught the tent on fire and we left in a hurry. I was a boy about 8. She loved cooking
food that was not part of our Mississippi. One dish I remember was cornned beef and tomato
sauce and peppers and okra she cooked in a large frying pan that was really good. She also make
for us Grandkids blackberry cobbler. It was so good.

Marriage Notes for ALBERT BROADUS and PEARLIE FILLINGAME:
Pearlie had undergone surgery to have her appendix removed and was still bedridden on her
wedding day, but they had planned for months to be married on this day. Invitations had been
sent out, the wedding gown bought, the minister engaged, and everything was ready for the big
event. It would have been a terrible inconvience to start over, so they decided to go ahead with
the wedding. I wish I had a picture of the bride lying supine upon the bed in her wedding gown,
the veil gracefully draped around her shoulders, Albert standing by the bed holding her hand.
It must have been a pretty picture. After the ceremony the guests were quickly shooed off into
other rooma for the celebration. In this manner did Albert take Pearlie to be his lawful wedded
wife.
