The family bible tells me that: JOHN CAIL married MARY ANN BACKUS in the City of Carlisle, County of Cumberland, England in 1862. Their children were:
Francis 1863 Henry 1865 John Henry 1867
Frank 1869 Alfred 1872 and George 1877.

I am George's great-grandaughter. At some point the family immigrated to the United States/Canada, some may have gone to Iowa, USA, and finally to Canada, settling in Camrose, Alberta where some descendants still reside.

My research has resulted in these tidbits: There is in the IGI a John CAIL baptised on 20 Sep 1840 at Christ Church, Carlisle. He was the son of Thomas and Elizabeth CAIL. Other children of Thomas and Elizabeth CAIL: Isaac (bapt. 10 Mar 1844 Christ Church, Carlisle); Mary Ann (bapt. 16 Oct 1831 Christ Church, Carlisle)

As far as Mary Ann is concerned, there are listings in the IGI around that time for Mary Ann BACKHOUSE. The most likely of these would be Mary Ann BACKHOUSE, daughter of Thomas BAKHOUSE and Mary WATERSON, baptised on 4 Apr 1845 at Dearham, or Mary Anne BACKHOUSE, daughter of Francis and Anne BACKHOUSE, baptised on 20 Jun 1841 at Wigton. (My money is on THIS one!)
