Jolly Good!!! What a relief to be getting information straight from the source! And what a "botch-up" can one single letter either transposed or incorrectly transcribed make in genealogy!

Here's something amusing. Findmypast's advise to anyone doing family trees: "DON'T FORGET TO KILL OFF YOUR ANCESTOR!" In other words, make certain he didn't die the day he was born, or even a few years later, before attributing children to him. How appropriate!

Josiah/Joseph was used interchangeably. His marriage record shows Josiah, but his death record (transcription) gives Joseph Frampton, interred Apr. 29, 1792, aged 59 years. So he would have been born circa 1733-34 but may not have been baptised until some time later. He was the only Josiah Frampton in Nfld, at least until the birth of his son Joseph in 1765.

The fact that your death record gives JNO instead of JOS prevents me from killing off poor Walter just yet. In the meantime I'll have to pursue all other possibilities. But how? If I were to subscribe to one single source for BMD records, where would you suggest for Dorset earliest records?

Great sleuthing! I can't thank you enough.
