I have recently been given information that an ancestor 'won' a sizeable amount in a Lottery in 1802 in UK. I had not heard about these lotteries but from googling it seems that the Government held these to fund, for instance, 'the British Empire' and setting up the British Museum. Would welcome any leads to follow please, especially to check the win of my ancestor!
