I have found a mystery that Joseph and Susan Harris (born 1842 and 1845 in Barnet) are known by the surname Harris in the 1861, 1881, 1891 and 1901 censuses, along with their seven children. Yet, in the 1871 census and in the children's birth records, they have the surname Deamer. There is a family story of a name change which backs this up, and I'm fairly certain that the 1871 census record is correct and it is the same family. Does anyone else share this family or know any reason why there should have been a name change? They live consistently in Barnet until after 1891 when they move to Islington.
