I have just leant that my great grandfather Henry Outridge's father was John Alfred Outridge and His mother was Mary Ann (maiden name unknown) John Alfred was transporterd to Australia in 1818 for forging banknotes. We think he was already married (perhaps to Mary Ann) and that they had at least one child. Although there are some Outridges in Sussex the name seems to be most common in Kent. The wife and chid(ren) followed John to Van Dieman's land fairly early on from what we can tell- perhaps 1824/5. There is also some indication that John Alfred's father's name was also John (b. 1781) and some evidence that he also folowed his son to Van Dieman's land and died in 1844.
If anyone has information about the Outridge family in Kent I would love to hear from you, or if anyone has knowledge how to source information specific to Kentish men transported to Australia.
