Quotation from the book..Mayfair, Belgravia, and Bayswater - The Fascination of London

Along the river runs the Grosvenor Road, part of the Thames Embankment.
The houses built on and near it were generally known in the last century as the Neat Houses.
Terraces with various names—Albion Terrace, Pier Terrace, Erin Place (1826), Thames Parade (1827), Thames Bank (1828)—were incorporated with the road in recent years.

4 of the map images are from GREENWOOD MAP OF LONDON Second Edition 1830 (8 inches to a mile).

Previous posters were correct.
Errin Place was in the Pimlico/Westminster area and it was alongside or just off what is now Grosvenor Road.
It was in the Parish of St. George Hanover Square, but it's not near the actual Hanover Square.
It was just west of Ranlagh Road.
The spelling is Erin and not Errin.
Thames Bank is Thames Embankment.
Erin Place was several hundred yards west of Vauxhall Bridge.

It is showing up on an 1851 census address search, but it's not coming up on any census
after 1851.
A previous poster reckons the 1861 census info for that area has been lost.
However, that does not explain why Erin place isn't listed on later censuses.
So perhaps it was demolished and redeveloped during future development and re- building
in the area.
You will see Erin Place on two of the attached maps, on one of which it is also named.
Erin Place is the second structure just to the left of the tea gardens.
The third structure to the left of the tea gardens is Thames Parade.
Two of the maps are the areas along the Thames where Erin Place is located and also
the map along the Thames of the area immediately west of the Erin Place map section.
One of the maps is the area immediatly north of the Errin Place river section map.
The history of the local government bodies and boundaries within London is fairly complex.
Until 1900 that area was under the administration of Westminster Court of Burgesses.
http://www.westminster.gov.uk/services/libraries/archives/in...That area and the adjacent areas are all now under the authority of the City of Westminster Council.
You can probably find the history of Erin place from Westminster Council Archives Department.

The name Grosvenor Road suggests to me the Grosvenor family = the Dukes of Westminster.
Indeed, they did own most of the land from mayfair south to the river Thames, and they owned Pimlico
and only sold it in 1953.
See the attached 1614 map of their London land holdings.
They still do own some of the most prestigious and valuable areas and addresses in London, as well as other large estates
in England and Scotland, which is why, the present Duke of Westminster, His Grace, Major-General Gerald Cavendish Grosvenor,
6th Duke of Westminster, is, or was until recent years, the wealthiest man in Britain.
He lives in Eaton Hall in Chester, but he flys to London by helicopter on most days, or he used to in recent years, in order to
deal with his estate management business and his other activities.
The family property holding are administered by an organiasation called, Westminster Estates, which has it's
offices in London, and I'll bet that they could tell you the entire history of Erin Place.

Note the penitentiary just to the north of Vauxhall Bridge, that was Millbank Prison, opened in 1816,
the year after the battle of Waterloo, and closed in 1890.
The site is now partly occupied by the Tate Britain Art Gallery, and by the Chelsea College of Art & Design.
It was from there that between 1843 and 1867, after having spent at least 3 months in the prison,
about 4000 convicts per year were loaded on board ship to be transported to Australia.
So your ancestors probably saw many of the convict ships sailing downriver enroute for Australia.
If they had walked north for several hundred yards along the Thames embankment to Vauxhall Bridge,
they might even have seen some of those poor souls being herded onto the transport ships.

This is the 1851 census listing for Erin Place, there are listings for 3 properties, 1 as Erin Place,
there is also a listing for Errin Place, and another for Erring Place, almost certainly spelling errors.
It goes...1 Erin Place...2 & 3 Errin Place...4 Erring Place ( the home of a Police Superintendent ).
Most of the people at those addresses were skilled or semi skilled working class people.
