Hello Carol,

I’m not a descendant but found what may be the Church of England baptism index for your Sarah Foster at the Latter Day Saints (LDS) website at: https://www.familysearch.org/search

The index shows that Sarah was baptized in Trowse, Norfolk, on 30 December 1787. Her parents are listed as Richard Foster and Ann.

Church of England baptisms from this time period do not traditionally include the maiden name of the child’s mother. Though not stated in the baptism index, the Church of England parish church in Trowse is called St. Andrew’s.

The index follows:

Sarah’s baptism record can be found in LDS microfilm number 1472794, which covers baptisms, marriages, and burials from the late 1600s, to the 1900s. You can order this film from your nearest Family History Center.

I looked for the marriage record of a Richard Foster and an Ann, maiden name unknown, at the LDS website for Trowse, but didn’t find it, nor did I locate it when I expanded the search to all of Norfolk, including nearby Norwich. I may have missed locating their marriage, or it’s possible their marriage record has not been indexed by the LDS to date.

Next I uncovered the LDS baptism indexes for six more children of a Richard and Ann Foster in Trowse. These are for Elizabeth (1776); Wm. (1789); Francis (1790); John (1792; Ann (1793); and David (1797). Like Sarah’s baptism, the baptism records for these children can be found in LDS microfilm number 1472794.

Next I found what I believe is your Sarah “Luders” in the 1841 census, living in an address of East Par, Snaith, Yorkshire. The census shows that she is 50 years old and born out of the county. The census also shows the Registration District for this section of Yorkshire was Goole, which is the same district in which the death of Jacob Ludders was recorded in 1844, according to information found in your family tree at the Ancestry.com message boards for the Foster and Ludders families.

The Ancestry.com index for the 1841 census has Sarah Luders residing in the same household with 10 year old Ann Stenitt, and 30 year old Ann Walton. But this is not correct. If you access a copy of the original 1841 census you’ll see on the line for Ann Walton, two hatch marks which look like //. These hatch marks indicate the last person in that particular household. The household in which Ann Stenitt and Ann Walton were living, was headed by a William Measwell, a 35 year old draper born in Yorkshire.

The census transcription below is from Ancestry.com and the Origins.net subscription website. It’s the Origins.net site which deciphered the street address for me:

On the same census page as Sarah Luders, is also the enumeration for a 45 year old school mistress named Elizabeth Armitage. In the household with Elizabeth is 20 year old Maria Armitage and 4 year old Emma Armitage. These I believe are Elizabeth’s children. As you know Maria Armitage was to marry Sarah Ludders’ son, Richard Ludders, two years later in 1843.

The 1841 census for Elizabeth, Maria, and Emma Armitage, follows:
