My cousins and I seek information about the CHANDLER family at St. Margaret's Westminster parish, Greater London. In particular, we seek information about JOHN CHANDLER who baptized these four children there 1597-1608/9:
-NICHOLAS, b. 1597
-JOHN, 7 September 1600, who we are 90%+ sure is our ancestor JOHN who came to Virginia in the expedition led by Sir Thomas West, Lord Delaware, landing at Jamestown on Sunday morning, 10 June 1610.
-WILLIAM, b. 1603
-MAGDALENE, b. 1608/9.
We have see the published book MEMORIALS OF ST. MARGARET WESTMINSTER.
We think these folks may have been from the Hampshire family because GEORGE CHANDLER, JR. of that family was heavily involved as a Draper and merchant-trader in London 1591-1631. George was a charter member of the East Indies Company (1600), the second charter of the Virginia Company (1609), and of the Northwest Passage Company (1612). George was a business and personal associate of Lord Delaware and Henry Wroithsley, Earl of Southampton (Shakespeare's patron), and others from Hampshire who were involved personally and financially with Delaware's expedition. Delaware expressly excluded "women and children" from his expedition yet 9 year old JOHN CHANDLER clearly came that way. This suggests that he may have come with his father JOHN looking after family interests perhaps sponsored by George.
Any assistance - and especially someone with whom to correspond - will be deeply appreciated. We have accumulated a tremendous amount of information on many 16th and 17th century CHANDLER families in London and its environs, as well as in Hampshire, Wiltshire, Warwickshire, Essex, Hertfordshire and Worcestershire.
