Hi Sandra,
Dad died when I was eight years old, he was working abroad in Africa so I did not have much contact with him. I remember mum saying that dad thought he was illegitimate and that his name could have been George Ernest McEwan-Douglas. I have tried this name but no luck so far. Just starting to try and look at the Scottish records, but they seem very messy, mostly newspaper inserts etc.
When dad was very young he mentioned that he live in Maidstone Kent (believed to be living with a relative who could have been the librarian. He served in the RAF in the war as a runway construction engineer.
I have found many George Douglas, and a few George E Douglas, but not to sure on how to find out what the E stands for. But then if I do find a correct name how do I know it is my father? I think it will just be a case of slowly going over each name.
Any way thank you very much for all this help, and I am sorry if this message is a bit long winded.

Andrew
