He took some finding because according to the 1901 census he was born in Cheshire. But it gives us a few clues to work on as he is father to Sarah born 1842 in Lancashire

This is the family in 1861. It takes a leap of faith to understand it. Leah is Mary's mother and is mis-transcribed as Crosse. It actually reads as Coupe on the original image. It shows that they had other children apart from Sarah and Fanny who I think must have died.
