Hi,
Does anyone know how or where I can look to find records for military families stationed in British India during the 1870s-1880s? My gg grandparents from Lancashire had at least 6 "missing" children (I can find no records of them at all). My gg grandfather, Patrick McGrail (misnamed on military records as "McFreal"), was a foot soldier and was stationed in India during the 1870s and fought in Afghanistan with the Punjabs in 1880-81. My theory is that Patrick's wife Jane O'Rourke McGrail, might have lived in India with Patrick until he went to fight in Afghanistan, when she seems to have returned to Lancashire w/o him. As the 6 "missing" children all seem to have been born and died during the first decade of Patrick & Jane's marriage and he was in the British Army that period, perhaps all the children must have been born and died in India. Anyone know how I could find out? I saw no Indian records on Ancestry.com
