I have a book of Robert Burns' poems inscribed:

"H. E. McQuarrie
Belfast, 1881"

It's my only clue to the extension of my Scottish and possibly Irish ancestry, still a brickwall some 7 years on. The Scottish name (related?) was RUTHERFORD James, b. c.1835 Scotland, and possibly a soldier (Royal Horse Guards) in England 1861-1871...

His wife (no visible marriage so far) was Lydia [GREENAWAY?] b. c1837 Hounslow, Middlesex Her daughter Lydia m. Robert TILBURY 1880 Fulham; all 4 lived in Faroe road, Hammersmith, in 1881.
