I was doing an internet search and came across your post; it's been almost a decade, but wondered if you had found the information you were looking for on Barrington-Ward and the origin. My maternal ancestors go back to John Ward of Blow, Ward, Greenfield & Co, 17th Century paper makers in Ulster (old name for Northern Ireland). His son, Marcus Ward formed the Marcus Ward and Sons, company which began printing and then became huge (greeting cards are still existent) but due to lawsuits, losses and competition, was disolved at the turn of the 20th Century. In a manner not yet fully clear, one of Marcus sons, REV. Canon (M James) Barrington Ward, hyphenated his name - it may have been due to knighthood - and his sons became your forebear, King's surgeon, Times editor
