Meantime, since you kindly looked into all this, you might like to look up the Norwegian Heritage Community site on the internet. You need to register but its free. Action the search for Sigvart Gabrielsen, Alexander's brother. You will see other siblings too. Sigvart and Dina were the children of Gabriel Gundersen's second marriage, and lost their mother (and father ??)in infancy. Sigvart became a mariner too, and like Alexander jumped ship (in his case Mobile, USA - don't know how he got back to S Wales)and received the same medal as Alexander for service in WW1.

Sigvart's second marriage was to my grandmother, Agnes Andrine Arnesen, daughter of a Norwegian father and Swedish mother, and born in Newport S Wales.
