Robert, this posting of "Holmes Merchants of Belfast," as you know has been an ongoing listing for several years with some very good research shared. I have worked on my line for years but have reached the era of difficulty in Ireland research of the 16th century. My line is from Alexander Holmes, b. abt 1760, arrived in America abt. 1785-89, m. Jane McCaw dau. of John McCaw of Co. Antrim. It is believed that Alexander was from Co. Antrim or Down but no actual proof.

I was wondering in your "quite a bit of information about the Holmes family," that you stated, do you have information about an Alexander Holmes from that general area of Ireland? I would be interested in ANY information or thoughts you might have.

Also, have you participated in the Holmes DNA Project? I participated several years ago and have found it helpful. The web address is: http://www.geneticousins.com/holmes.
DNA genealogy is an excellent means of comparing and connecting family lines where the documents or paper tail has ended.

Thank you, in advance, for any help, information, and reply.
