Classification: Query
Surnames: McAloney, McAlonan, McAlonie
I am a McAloney descendent. My grandmother was a McAloney (Eleanor).

My great grandfather was Ervin Robert McAloney b. 1885 in New Salem NS. He married Sadie (Sarah Jane) MacLeod. This I know because I was 15 when he died and in my 20's when my great grandmother died.

The info I have I received from my great aunt (Sylvia McAloney)and from the McAloney family bible.

My great great grandfather was Robert Benjamin McAloney b. 1852 in Southhampton, Cumberland Co., NS. He married Mary (or Marie) Lunn. His father was James McAloney b.1867 in Ballymena, Co. Antrim, Ireland. He married Sarah Leranda Rector. He died in 1869 in Nova Scotia. His father was Alexander McAloney b. 1770 in Ireland and died in 1837 in Nova Scotia. The info I received indicated that his father or grand father was William Baine McAlonie but I have been unable to verify this.

I was glad to see that the McAloney family changed their name from McAlonan upon arriving in Nova Scotia because I have been unable to locate any connections in Ireland. Although I found a book of Irish family names that listed McAloney.

I would be happy to share the info that I have and would be interested in any info you have on my line.
