Joseph Edward Sturgeon, born 21 May 1889, son of James Sturgeon, labourer, and Jemima Pritchard; informant was the father. Registered in Bayfield, Huron County.
There were several other children born to the couple, and Jemima's maiden name shows as Uprichard. Jemima died in 1935, and her parents' names are given as William Uprichard, born in Ireland, and Sarah Leckie, born in Scotland. Born 16 July 1853 in Ireland. Had been in Canada for 62 years (immigration date of around 1873).
James died in 1930 and his parents' names are William Sturgeon, born Ireland, and Nancy Doake(spelling?), both in Ireland. Dated of birth not given, but was 83 years of age at his death. Born in Ireland. Had been in Canada for 55 years, so immigration date of around 1875.
They are certainly in Canada in Bayfield by the time of the 1881 Canadian Census, with children, Sarah, aged 3, born in Ireland, and Annie, aged 1, birthplace illegible.
I believe I have found Jemima Uprichard arriving in 1874 aboard the Peruvian out of Londonderry, aged 18, spinster, with a sister, May, aged 20. There is also a James, aged 30, on the same page, but not listed together with Jemima and May. This would suggest that Jemima and James were married in Ontario.
I did find the marriage, but James' name is given as Thomas.
Thomas Sturgeon, aged 23, born Ireland, of Bayfield, son of William & Susan, bachelor, laborer, married Jemima Uprichard, aged 21, born Ireland, of Bayfield, daughter of Thomas & Sarah; 25 October 1876 in Bayfield.
