There are some very good websites for Carlow - one being

I have the Latter Day Saints CD for Civil Registration for the year 1864-1875 - limited in scope
Pierce Deegan born 24 June 1871 #989, St. Mullins
Catherine Deegan same, microfilm # also same FHL 255823
Children born to James Deegan and Bridget Heffernan. There are 27 other records but Pierce is an unusual name. No other children for this couple in the above years.
www.familysearch.org is the Latter Day Saints on-line website. You can put in christian names or just last names, use Ireland as country. These records come from the National Library in Dublin and transcribed by the LDS. Also there is a new PILOT program - see under 'search records' in top left corner, the following was found there:
556 Deegan records/did not try Connor but Maurice is different enough from Mary Anne
Henry death 1918 Baltinglass Registration District, Carlow or Wicklow records, birth estimated at 1880
Henry Joseph born Jan-Mar 1881 - same Baltinglass.....
The only Degan (put in Deegan) on the search on the main page and only came up with the US 1880 Census, Henry Degan,born Ireland, Tailor age 45, Mass, married - no wife or children's name which is unusual.
Pierce Deegan's birth as above was there also.
