Searching for information about James C/Kavana(u)gh born about 1821 in County Carlow, in Ballyglisheen townland, which is now Ballymurphy. James wed Mary Foley, born 1826. Mary Foley's parents were Paul Foley and Mary Ryan. According to Griffiths Valuations 1852, Paul Foley leased land and house 7a 2r 12p from a Mary C. Corcoran. It is believed that Mary Foley had a sister named Elizabeth Foley who married Edward Leonard.

James and Mary had six children: Jeremiah, Laurence, Mary, Gerald, Arthur and probably a James, based on the Irish Catholic naming conventions. All of the children moved to the U.S. except one, who went to India, presumably with the British Army. Mary Foley Kavanaugh and her son Arthur emigrated to the U.S. in 1895.

Mary Foley Kavanaugh died in 1910 in Chicago. My great-grandfather was her son, Arthur. I would greatly appreciate any information, leads or suggestions.

I am a member of Clann Chaomhánach. I have gone through LDS microfilm for the church in Chicago that Arthur and Gerald attended. I would need James Cavanaugh's (b. about 1821) DOB and/or date of death to dig farther back.

Thank you in advance, and good luck in your searches.
