Surnames: Guthrie, Cusick, O'Mara, O'Connor, Inge, VanInWagen, Slavens, Aldrich, Chaffee, Simpson
Just wanted to touch base with you once again. Our Guthries came from Lahinch and Ennistymon, County Clare to Byron, Illinois and on to Elkhart, Iowa. Another relative, Patrick Guthrie and wife Ellen O'Mara Guthrie brought the orphaned children of her sister, Mary O'Mara O'Connor, from Limerick City to Byron, Illinois sometime shortly after the death of the children's parents in 1849 and 1851. After the Civil War in which Gerald O'Connor was killed, Mary Ann O' Connor married James Joseph Guthrie in Rockford, Illinois. James Joseph's parents were Bridget Cusick (died September 08, 1872 in Elkhart, Iowa) and her husband, Patrick Guthrie (married May 1816; Patrick died in Limerick, Ireland on May 26, 1849). Six of their children emigrated to Iowa or Illinois (Mary, John, Henry, Thomas, Michael and James Joseph). Two children died in Kilshanney Parish, Ennistymon, Co. Clare apparently and one son (Patrick) married in 1856 at age 26 in Ireland. Is there a connection with your Guthries or Cusicks? Thank you.
