The Pewter name first appears in Quin, Co. Clare in the Tithe Applotment Books of the 1820's. A microfilm copy of the Quin Parish Records is held at the Clare Library. You could try contacting Peter Beirne at the Library to do a look-up for you.
Looks like the Pewter family name was located in the Tulla-Scariff area of Co.Clare. If you check out the following website, the civil registrations of births, deaths, & marriages from Ireland 1864-1958 approx. you will see that there was quiet a few people of that name in those areas
http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/#p=0 . you should also check out the Clare library website genealogy section for the Griffith's land valuation of 1855 and the Tithe applotment books of the 1820's, that will also give you an idea where the Pewters lived, www.clarelibrary.ie
My Haren family that came from Tromra West were Elizabeth Haren and her sister Bridget. Bridget was dead by 1890 or so and my Elizabeth was gone by 1910. Both left 2 daughters, Elizabeth had Mary and Elizabeth Haren, and Bridget left two who's name I can't recall. I would bet that our families (or at least my Elizabeth's daughters) knew each other and probably knew they were in Jersey City and Hoboken. What a small world.

As crazy as it sounds my great grandmother settled in Jersey City and her brother Michael came to live with her.
This is probably the marriage record for Mary Curtin/John Ryan. Tromra West would be in the Kilrush Civil Registration District.
Name: Mary Curtin
Registration district: Kilrush
Record type: MARRIAGES
Registration date - quarter and year: 1872
Estimated birth year:
Age:
Mother's surnames:
Film number: 101251
Volume: 4
Page: 384
Digital GS number: 4179384
Image number: 00553
Collection: Ireland, Civil Registration Indexes 1845-1958

Name: John Ryan
Registration district: Kilrush
Record type: MARRIAGES
Registration date - quarter and year: 1873
Estimated birth year:
Age:
Mother's surnames:
Film number: 101252
Volume: 4
Page: 384
Digital GS number: 4179385
Image number: 00144
Collection: Ireland, Civil Registration Indexes 1845-1958

You will notice from the above record that the years differ i.e. 1872 & 1873. The microfilm no. also differs i.e. 101251 & 101252 but the volume number and page are the same so I suspect that there is an error there somewhere.
The index to the Irish Civil Registrations from 1864 to 1958 are available online at the following link so you should be able to track the birth records for this family based on the approximate date of births from the 1901 Census. I think you can order the microfilm numbers from your nearest FHC. Here is the link.
http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/#p=0
He D in 1852 and was buried in New Jersey leaving 3 children and Ann married James McNamara (also from Limerick) and had at least 2 children Mary and Julie McNamara who were spinsters and lived in New York City and worked in retail.

Patrick worked for the Railroad after coming to the US and the family (although not documented) stated he had worked for the RR in Ireland. They were of the RC Faith and information at the church states where he came from in Ireland. His mother Honora and sister Honora also came to NJ.

I've often seen these Frawleys in records and wondered about our connection. From what I've found out they usually came out to Australia to family. So I reckon they could all be cousins at least. They all appear to come from the same area in Clare. Our Thomas Frawley was a lot older than his wife Anne Hassett and we suspect there might have been a prior wife, which means, there could have been older children/half brothers or sisters to our family.
Do you know of any Frawleys who went to America earlier on?
This story has been told many times and I can not find the connection. Would love to hear what you think.

We are dealing with similar time period and names but uncertain of connections. My gggrandparents married in Newmarket on Fergus in 1852 (john Ryan to Mary Shannon). Their daughter Margaret baptized in 1853 and their son John, my great grandfather in 1857. He emigrates to Brooklyn NY about 1885 and Marries Annie McMahon in 1892 - she was born in Newmarket in 1858 where her family appear to have been tenants of Fitzgerald of Carrigoran. THey had 3 children: Edward John, Joseph Michael, and Annie.

Hello Ruth,
Lovely to come across your posting - I've changed email addresses and don't get to this one often, Now use erstewart@gmail.com
I remember your parents well and their house on the prom. In fact your father picked me up at the bus stop the first time I arrived from Dublin via the train to Limerick and the bus up to Lahinch - your parents both seemed to have a wealth of knowledge about so many things, it's no wonder you're able to help folks with their "tracing".
In fact, Bea visited NYC in 1939 for the World's Fair (believe she met Martin on the boat - he was returning to NY from a visit home). She went out to her mother's sister, Bridget Flanigan from Bartra, who was a domestic. Since Bridget of course "lived in" at her employer's, Bea spent some of her time with my great grandmother in Brooklyn, who though from Newmarket-on-Fergus, was first cousin to some of the Bartra Flanagans and all of the Lehanes of Cregg and Carhugar - my mother was 15 at the time and remembered a bon voyage party for Bea with Jimmy and tom Flanigan from Bartra and their aunt Bridget (Aunt Budge to my mother) and Delia Linnane Frawley and others - I stayed quite friendly with Michael, Mary, and Kitty Lehane. Only Mary is left and in Liscannor nursing home.

Have made quite a few trips to Ireland over the years, though my last trip was 8 years ago. Certainly, I too have witnessed many changes - guess material success can be a good thing but I feel privileged to have had the pleasure of meeting folks from years past like Bea and your parents, Nan Healy, and even old Delia Commane from Aylebrack who was the last of the old women wearing the old black shawl - she would come in to Bea to buy snuff and we became friends.
I could go on and on but will stop. Wishing you and yours the best,
Ed Stewart

Hi Kylie, I am searching Patrick too. He came on the Conway with his brothers, Charles and John and Sister Catherine. They were sponsored by a Charles Doherty who was their uncle and maybe my gggg grandfather. I am trying to find Charles' parents names and am hoping if i can find patricks fathers name he will be Charles' brother and i might be able to get the parents names. Sounds confusing. I have link to a page that has the info on the 4 siblings on the Conway. If you send me an email at nicoleloncar@bigpond.com i will send you the link. Hope you might be able to help me.

A 14 year old bride! Must be a relative of mine. My 90 year old Aunt Agnes thinks Mary may have lied about her age. Agnes said that way before you found that record. Agnes said Mary was close to 100, when she died in Lowell, Massachusetts, yet the St. Patrick's Cemetery Log says she was only 73.
I believe Francis Boland from Feakle was my Great Great Grandfather. Other than James and Michael, there was a son Francis. With his wife Catherine and somewhere between 4 and 8 offspring (don’t know if they all belonged – there may have been some ring ins) he arrived at Adelaide on the Nugget in 1854. On arrival he posted the following notice in the Maitland Mercury: JAMES BOLAND, who left Cahir, County Clare, Ireland, in 1832, and is now supposed to be living in the Hunter River District, is informed that his Brother, Francis Boland, has, with his family, arrived at Adelaide, South Australia, and that a Letter addressed to him, at " Hunt's Labour Office," Adelaide, will find him. 3315 n.b. Cahir is a townland in the parish of Feakle
Francis and Catherine Boland subsequently moved to the Hunter (Black Creek, now Branxton). While there they had 4 more children and I believe one of the elder daughters Jane married Nicholas Kauter. Two of their sons (Thomas Corry Boland and Michael John Boland lie in the cemetery at Lochinvar along with so many of the Kauters.
Ultimately the family moved to Upper Manilla when that locality was thrown open to selection. I would be very happy to hear from you and to share all the information I have. Bill Connolly
John was baptised in Galbally, Tipperary. I have no siblings for Simon but this could be an interesting lead. Hope to hear from you. Regards Jane McGrath

My great grandfather was James Mungovan (Kanturk) b.4 Nov 1873, died Jan 29th 1943. I have his obit from the clare chapmion and am curious to find the first name of his sister listed in the obit as Mrs Vaughan. Full text of Obit reads:

Obituary from Clare Champion Feb 13th 1943

Mr James Mungovan, Kanturk, Connolly
It is with feelings of deep regret we announce the death of Mr James Mungovan, which sad event occured at his residence, Kanturk, Connolly on 29th January. Deceased belonged to a highly respected family and was widely popular, his ready wit and humour endearing him to all those with whom he came into contact. After a comparatively short illness he passed away peacefully to his eternal reward, to the inexpressible grief of a devoted family and wide circle of friends.
His remains were removed to Connolly Church on Sunday morning where mass was celebrated for the happy repose of his soul by Rev J. Hayes CC Kilmaley. The funeral which was the largest ever seen in the district and a fitting tribute to the esteem in which the deceased was held took place to Kilmaley cemetery. Rev J Hayes CC officiated at the graveside assisted by Very Rev J Roche, PP Kilmaley and Rev J Houlihan CC ,,do.
The chief mourners were -- his loving wife {Mary Anne Reidy}; Shane (son); Sister M Brigid of the Immaculate Conception, Loughglynn; Sister M Canice, Gold Coast; Mrs Carney , USA; Mrs Cahill NT; Mrs McGoey, Mrs Cosgrove, Mrs O'Higgins, Mary, Elizabeth, Sheila and Frances (daughters); Denis , USA, (brother); Mrs Vaughan (sister), James Reidy (brother in law)l Michael Carney USA; Martin Cahill, Michl McGoey, Peter Cosgrove, Michael O'Higgins, B.Comm (sons in law) and a host of other relatives too numerous to mention.

Shane should be Sean (John Joe)

Other family members were in Polk County, Iowa shortly after 1850. Bridget Cusick married Patrick Guthrie about 1816. Patrick died in Ireland in ca 1848. Bridget brought the youngest child, James Joseph, to Illinois ca 1848.

I searching for information regarding the Ryan Family residing in the Townland of Tromra West, Kilmurry at the end of the 19th century 1890-1911. The family members are as follows: John Ryan (Head of Family), Mary Ryan (nee Curtin), and their children: Mary E. Ryan, John Ryan, Catherine Ryan, Margaret Ryan, Michael Ryan and Daniel Ryan.

Mary was born approx 1883 and emigrated to the United States approximately 1895. She was followed by her Sisters Margaret and Catherine in the early 1900's and her brother Michael in 1905. I believe Daniel also emigrated to the U.S. They all settled in Hudson County, New Jersey.

Im seeking confirmation on the birth of Mary Ryan to John and Mary from West Tromra and information relative to John and Mary Ryan (Dates of birth, marriage, parents names)

Anyone with information please reply.

Thank You,

Jim

Hello Jennifer, it took me a bit of time but I think I have found the record, see below. Hope this helps. There is only one Stephen Hartigan marriage shown in Co.Clare on the website I gave you. The film number, volume, and page number matches the record for Mary M'Namara. Notice that they put an ' after the letter M instead of a small c. That's why it took me awhile to find the correct record.

Name: Stephen Hartigan
Registration district: Ennis
Record type: MARRIAGES
Registration date - quarter and year: 1869
Estimated birth year:
Age:
Mother's surnames:
Film number: 101251
Volume: 4
Page: 285
Digital GS number: 4179384
Image number: 00071
Collection: Ireland, Civil Registration Indexes 1845-1958

Name: Mary M'Namara
Registration district: Ennis
Record type: MARRIAGES
Registration date - quarter and year: 1869
Estimated birth year:
Age:
Mother's surnames:
Film number: 101251
Volume: 4
Page: 285
Digital GS number: 4179384
Image number: 00113
Collection: Ireland, Civil Registration Indexes 1845-1958
If you order her marriage certificate online at www.groireland.ie it may state her age or it may say "of full age" which means she would have been 21 or older. The Marriage certificate may also state what part of Ennis she came from and you may be able to find her baptismal record. I know that Larry Brennan and the Clare Roots people are in the process of diditizing the Ennis parish records and they will probably put them on the Clare Library website at www.clarelibrary.ie in the near future.
