My 2x great-grandfather Denis Scanlan was born in 1833 in Aughadown to a Derby (Jeremiah) Scanlan and Biddy Cronin, Denis had [at least] two siblings, Pat (1829) and Ellen (1830) both born in Rath, which was part of Baltimore, Cork. Denis married Margaet Hegarty on Feb.8,1862 in Aughadown (Cork & Ross) Roman Catholic. Their sponsors were: Daniel Sullivan and Joannes Mahony ..... They had (10) children:
John(B: 1863), who was my great grandfather, Patrick (B: 1864), Michael (B: 1865), Mary (B: 1867), Catherine (B: 1868), Ellen (B: 1870), Margaret (B: 1871), Denis (B: 1874), Edward (B: 1877) and Bridget/Biddy (B: 1879).
John, Michael, Catherine, Ellen/Nellie, and Bridget Josephine all came to the USA and lived in Lawrence, Massachusetts.
Patrick, I can't find a thing on him - Edward, nothing after the 1901 Irish census and Denis, he married a widow, Ellen (Lannin) Sullivan and had a son Patick Thomas, who immigrated to New York City in 1925.
Love to find more info or anywhere to search for more and better info on the folks [who] stayed in Ireland. Thanks!
