Surnames: Touhy Twohy
My grandfather was Michael Martin Tuohy born 1868, married Gertrude Dennison 1898, died 1911 in D.C MD. Buried Mt. Olive Cemetery. Mass at St. Peters in DC. Son of Martin and Mary Tuohy. Has brothers and sisters as follows: Thomas, Hugh, John , Kate, and others. Buried nearby in same cemetery are Hugh Tuohy b Oct 16, 1817,Died Jan 16, 1906
Bridget Tuohy born in Rosecommon Ireland June 18, 1824 died May 20, 1902; Aloysius G. Tuohy born June 11, 1855 died June 4, 1901; Michael J. Tuohy Born Nov 14, 1848, died Aug 26, 1884; Hugh Tanislaus Tuohy born Oct 16, 1850, died Dec. 30, 1878, Mary Ann Tuohy born July 25, 1853, died Jan 11, 1884. Mary Ann was the beloved child of Hugh and Bridget Tuohy. My problem is I do not know how or if they relate to my grandfather. I also found a wallet with the name M.J. Twohy embossed on it. Trying to figure out if the name was originally Twohy and the name was changed when they came to America. I also have some Irish lace things found in my grandmothers trunk. Have always believed the the Tuohy-s or Twohy's were from Cork and the mothers side was Garrity from Roscommon. I believe that Bridget Tuohy above born in Roscommon was definitely related. Now believe that the Michael J. Tuohy born in 1848 may have been a brother. But the change in the name Twohy and Tuohy is confusing. Does anyone recognize any of these names.
