Connie: I am so happy to hear from you. I have had the luck of the Irish since my husband, Wayne, and I travelled to Ireland for our 10th wedding anniversary on St. Patrick's Day.
I met people in Whitegate who knew Ned and Mary including Mrs. O'Leary who bought their house after the death of Ned. Mr. Tucker, known as the Whitegate historian, took us to the cemetery to visit their gravesite, and the owner of Kelly's Pub in Cobh (pronounced Cove and a short distance from Whitegate) told me he grew up in Whitegate and that his father knew Ned and Mary.
On our return to the States, I subscribed to Ancestry World and was doing searches on Great Uncle John's family in Australia and while doing searches was connected to his granddaughter and we have been communicating quite a bit. I provided Glenys a copy of my geneology I was working on and have received their input as well. I can send you this so you can update your family too.
This has been so emotional. I feel closer to the Aherns in Ireland and now in Australia.
I have been attempting to find out the maiden name of Mary Barry, who was married to Patrick Barry, and the mother of Bartholomew and Bridget to know avail. Do you have any information on this?
I am so happy to hear from you, and when I saw your inquiry on the Aherns in Ireland I just knew we were related.
I will provide you access to my Ancestry and you can review and we can work on this together, along with the Aherns in Australia.
Great Uncle John had two children -- a son, John, and a daughter, Eileen. John had two daughters and Eileen had three. I also have pictures of them. Not sure if I have them on Ancestry. I'll check.
I will close for now. I'm so happy that we are communicating. My next challenge is Nanny's family. She was raised by the Healys after her father and mother passed away. They too are buried in Mt. Olivet and I will be venturing there soon to see what information I can find.
Take care, Ann
