I have now found out that my Great Grandfather Robert Bogle was born (registered) in Inver Co Donegal in 1832. He married Elizabeth Loghlin in 1859 and then came to Co Tyrone (Clare or Garvetagh) His son William (my Grandfather) was actually born in Castlederg on 04.12.1869.
My Great Great Grandfather was also called Robert and was a farmer in Drumconor near Mountcharles - he married a woman whose first name was Catherine. I assume he would have been born sometine around 1800.
I have no information on my Grandfather's siblings but I think he might have had a brother Johnny.

I have managed to find some information e.g. Robert Bogle and Elizabeth Loghlin married in Inver Donegal in 1859 and lived at Drumconor, Mountcharles. It has been suggested that they were married in c1820, but I have me Doubts about this. Patrick was a member of the Donegal Militia in around 1810 and then Joined the 39th Dorsetshire regiment in 1812. They shipped out to Australia in 1828 and settled here. I can find nothing about Anne Grogan, birth, parents etc. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Glen

Hi, I am trying to research my Family history and have hit a stumble. I am trying to find out where I can get information on the Donegal Militia from c1810. I am trying to get information on my GGG Grandfather Patrick Devaney. He was a member of the Donegal militia and Joined the 1/39th Dorsetshire regiment of foot in 1812 and he married Anne Grogan (unsure of when). His Fathers name was Cornelius and Patrick and Anne left for Australia from Plymouth in 1828, where they settled. Other than that I keep drawing a blank. I can trace them from when they arrived here, but prior to that is a mystery. I can find no birth/marriage records on Patrick or Anne and no birth/death records on Cornelius. Any help would be appreciated.

Thankyou,
Glen

Hi again, I have just found out some more and there are some good links now to help trace e.g. this one http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/search/ I noticed that there were two families of Bogles (likely related) living very close to each other . House no 7 are my Bogles and I have also been able to trace Rober Bogle back to being born in 1832 in Mountcharles area, Donegal. He married an Elizabeth Loghlin (spelled Loglin sometimes) in 1859 in Donegal before moving to Garvetagh.
see link http://www.familysearch.org/eng/default.asp

I hope this might help.
Helen: I am responding to your posting from 1998.

I have a James LONG who was born in Lancaster County, PA in 1738 and died in Crawford County, PA April 6, 1830. He is buried in the Mt. Blair Cemetery near Meadville. From his tombstone and his pension papers we determined that he was a soldier of the Revolution. We believe he had at least 2 brothers, John and Cookson who we have determined to have been born on the Conodoguinet Creek about 7 miles from Shippensburg, PA.

We have lots of information on this family. If you think you are of the same family, let us know and hopefully we can exchange data and add to our family history.

My email address is huep1@cox.net or phone me at 316-283-3877.

Thank you.

Hi, I believe I have an Ed O'Donnell in my family who lived in Coaldale. I believe he is my great grandfather. He was born around 1843 in Ireland and married a Kate (b. 1848). They immigrated to US around 1866 and settled in Coaldale. They ultimately had 7 children - one James (b. 1880) was my grandfather. I never knew him since he died in 1921. However, this Ed O'Donnell may, perhaps, be related to your Susanna O'Donnell. I also have family ties on both sides to the Kensington neighborhood near 24th & Dauphin. My grandfather, James, died in Phila. in this area in 1921. Please let me know if any of this sounds familiar. Regards, Anne

Hi Fyfin
The family I am researching was also from Inver Parish.
I looked on IGI and there are only 319 entries for Bogles in the whole country! These are B D and M entries so we are looking at fewer than 319 people listed on the IGI as some of them will have more than one relevant entry. So why is it so difficult? The lack of records is frustrating isnt it.
have found mine on the 1901 and 1911 censuses and in Griffiths Valuation. If you pm me I will give you more info.
Cheers

Jameson ancestors from Donegal

I'm looking for the family of Aaron Jameson of Donegal. He was a stonemason who immigrated to Kings County(Brooklyn, NY). DOB was possibly 1795; his grandson's 50th wedding anniversary newspaper article(1927) said Aaron lived to 105. He's my brick wall; I can't find his birth, immigration or death dates.

He was married to Martha Martin, and their son James was my gg-grandfather. He was born approx. 1826(in Ireland, according to census and death cert. data); worked as a stonemason also, and died in 1918(I have the death cert and the obituary). James married Bridget McKeon.

The family first appears on the US Census in Gravesend, Kings County, NY, in 1850. I've seen the surname spelled a number of different ways - Jameson, Jamison, Jamerson, Jamieson, Jameison, Jimmerson.

I have a Jameson family tree up on ancestry; if anyone from Donegal can assist, I would be ecstatically grateful.

Hi Denis

Thanks very much for responding to my post. Bridget was indeed the brother of Denis Coll. She was married to my great grandfather Michael Duffy. Denis Coll sponsored and paid for entry to the USA of many of Bridget & Michael's children (my grandmother's siblings). He also put them up after they arrived and helped find them jobs.

I would very much like to hear from your uncle. There are a couple of my Duffy relatives who had regular contact with Dennis and his wife Mary P McFadden up until the late 30's and I have been unable to track them beyond that point. I will be able to provide details on what became of several generations of children of Michael and Bridget. My father was present at the death's of both Michael & Bridget in September 1945 (he was their grandson) in Tirloughan.

My private email address if frankmcgurrin@usa.net and Ivery much look forward to hearing from you.

All the best

Frank (yet another Francis McGurren)

Hi, thanks for taking the time to read this post. I am planning a trip to Carrigart in the next couple of months and would like to photograph some family graves in the area. I have not been there since 1960 and so am unfamiliar with the area. I need to be able to identify the correct cemetery before I go. The graves are:

Michael Duffy and Anne ‘Nancy’ Rogers

Their son Michael Duffy and his wife Bridget (nee Coll) died 30 Sept 1945 and 18 Sept 1945 respectively.

Michael and Bridget’s son Anthony ‘Anton’ Duffy (1904 – 1974) and his wife Sarah (nee McBride)(1904 -1960). All other children, except Annabella ‘Bella’ died abroad.

There were quite a few of my Duffy family from the Carrigart, Gortnabrade, Aghallaty, Tirloughan area as Michael and Anne had 9 children (between 1840 and 1873) and numerous grandchildren thereafter.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Frank
Re: McCarran from Ireland

Do you have anymore information on Anne? I have a McCarron line that I believ is from Co. donegal. My grgrgrandfather was Patrick McCarron born circa 1823, his father was Andrew born circa 1797. Patrick married Catherine Faulkner who I believe to have also have been from Donegal. Somehow they got to MA USA (possibly via Canada)--from there I have a fair amount of information--but I am trying to find this line in Ireland.

Laird Family from Muntertinny Raphoe Donegal

Searching for Laird family from Muntertinny Raphoe Donegal.
It appears that the whole family except my G/father went to Canada between 1906 and 1912. My G/grandfather Joseph Laird married Martha McElhinney and their offspring were James, Margaret, William, Joseph (my grandfather) Elizabeth, Martha
Anne, Samuel Robert, and Rebecca Sarah. I feel that the family split up during their travels but my wish is that someone will know of their whereabouts and help my quest for
reaching one or more of their decendants.
From John Laird

Re: Descendants of Anthony Wilkinson, County Donegal

I'm not sure if anybody still checks this post, but I'm going to try anyway. I descend from an Anthony Wilkinson born approximately 1765 in Ireland and died 13 Mar 1842 in Manor PA. He emigrated from Ireland to Pennsylvania before 1795, since he was married to a Catherine Miller in Chester Co. PA, in 1795. Because his oldest son is named William, I am surmising that his father had the same name (William Wilkinson). However, I have no information on his father, mother, or siblings, and I'm hoping that he might be related to the Wilkinsons from these posts. If anybody has any information that might be helpful, it would be greatly appreciated.
