the family tree of George Bell & Mary McCracken of
County Down, Ireland who married 1761 & who were of Garvaghy Parish 1787 and who evidently attended Magherally Parish Presbyterian Meeting House from before 1785

Carol J Bell of Atlanta, who grew up a half mile from where those Bells bought land in USA 1792 at valley Grove, Ohio Co VA / WV,
in July 2009 visited County Down, Ireland, in part looking at the area just east of Banbridge .
She found that before he left for USA 1784, the Bells' oldest son Wm had been a member of Magherally Presbyterian church in Magherally Parish, (about 2-3 miles east or southeast of Banbridge) a famous meeting house, as it had become the first Presyterian church in county Down 1651. apparently the Bells traveled to worship at that prominent old church from their residence a couple miles further to the southeast in Gavaghy Parish. Their residence was possibly in the townland called Balloolymore, but at least was in the NW side of Garvaghy parish, which is all called the district of Balloolymore, at least in the 1911 census subdivision of Gavaghy parish into 2 parts: the Garvaghy Division and the Balloolymore Division (on a roughly east-west line (actually might be NW vs SE, as the parish is elongated in those 2 directions).

The only place name Belloody Mills might correspond to following places likely
in Garvaghy Parish, Co. Down, just east of Banbridge town:Balloolymore Townland
is in parish of Garvaghy Co. Down, Ireland, the parish where they lived apr1787
when they wrote a letter to their son William in Washingotn Co. PA. Another
similar name on modern Irish maps is Corbet Mills, just east of Banbridge town.
That's along the River Bann, so the concept of Belloody Mills might refer to a
place along the River Bann, the biggest watercourse in that area of Ireland;

You may want to make a small correction to your files and posting. In a couple
of places you refer to "Bell Family History Sep 1985 by Tigner and Bell, sent
by D. Beach, see more below;".
Actually this is not a history by Mary Elizabeth Tigner and James Hamilton Bell
but a history OF Mary Elizabeth Tigner and James Hamilton Bell's family. This
"book" is a research folder by Mary Wiltse Heck of about 100 pages. It
includes a will she thought was that of Hamilton Bell who married Agness Bell
1806-1885 and was the father of James Hamilton Bell, but it probably is in fact
the will of Hamilton Bell 1828-1888 who married Nancy Bischard also of Guernsey
County OH. That Hamilton died the same year as our Hamilton. I think it belongs
to him because a witnesse is Bischard brother of Nancy.
Note:
No gravestone has been found for my Hamilton Bell 1809-1888, although his wife
agness stone is still readable. He remarried after Agness death, Marget Sheilds
Tigner, widow of Mary Tigner's brother, William Tigner, who had died young.
Oddly when asked about Hamilton's second wife, Mary Tigner Bell "couldn't
remember" that Marget Sheilds Tigner was her sister in law! I wonder about
that.

Mary Heck and I both started our research from the same information provied to
all the cousins in the Bell family at an annual family reunion in Ames IA about
1910.

I don't have p.304 of the Sarchet History and found the following a bit
confusing:
SARCHET HISTORY page 304 or other? Joesph Bell died in Liberty twp in 1839
and his wife followed in 1842, leaving a family of 5 children. "
I have 10 children from this marriage and was under the impression most of them
lived to adulthood. Obviously something is amiss.

"SARCHET HISTORY p.304 Joseph Bell came from VA to OH in 1807 (crossed out) and

matches with Stories of Guernsey Co. OH by Wm. Wolfe 1943 page 852-3. However
in Wolfe it continues Joseph Bell "died in Liberty township in 1839 on the farm
he entered which is now owned by his descendants." The "now owned by his
descendents" is important to tying his descendents to him.

The next line is James Bell, b. in VA in 1776, came to what is now Liberty twp
in 1810, and entered 320 acres."
So both James Bell 1776 and Joesph Bell 1775 unrelated arrived in Liberty twp
about the same time. Some may have read this as 2 brothers james and Joseph
Bell were early settlers of Guernsey OH.
Note:
I agree with you, the first named Joseph Bell is the father of Agness Bell who
married Hamilton Bell the son of the 2nd named James Bell b. 1776. Agnes was
born to Joseph and Margaret Hosack Bell on August 5, 1806 and came to OH with
her parents when she was 6 months old or sometime in 1807. Though Joseph may
have come a bit earlier to prepare for his family's move.

"David and George (Bell) settled in Liberty Twp and became men of enterprise
and thrift" is mentioned section 3 p.3 of Wiltze's "Bell Family History" as
from SARCHET HISTORY p.304. which again I have no copy of this page.
Note:
I do have pages 604-6 of the Sarchet book, which contain a biography of Oscar
O. Bell son of George & Mary Milligan Bell and grandson of Hamiton and Agnes
(Nancy Bell) Bell. Agness Nancy Bell being the daughter of Joseph and Margaret
Hosack Bell. Unfortunately it doesn't say Agnes was the daughter of Joe and
Margaret. If you need them, I can copy them for you.

married Margaret Barrett and then Sarah Rosengrant. Peter's father was born in
ENG according to the 1880 Census Whitefield Marshall Co. IL; He died in 1899
and his wife is in Putnam Co. IL in 1900 Census with her dau. and son in law's
family. Putnam is just north of Marshal Co. IL.
