Probably impossible, but I am searching for the place where my William Lewis and Mary John were married, where and what parish William was from. He was b. abt.1740 in County Down, NI and Mary was b. abt. 1750 in Wales. They have a marriage date of 6/10/1770 in County Down, NI, that seems a positive, and they were in the USA by 4/17/1772, in Leesburg, Loudoun, Va. I have asked before, but it doesn't hurt to ask again, any help or direction would be greatly appreciated. I don't know anymore abt. William Lewis than from the point he is in America. He was a Major in the Rev. War of Independence, and died in 1812 in White county, Tenn.
Mary John was the daughter of Thomas John of Wales, and he died in 1769 in Leesburg, Loudoun, Va. I have been told that in Wales a son uses his father's surname as his given name, but when they came to America (back then) that practice ceased, any truth in that? The meaning could be helpful in searching here in the US as I have found John Thomas being associated with several Lewis' that could really broaden the search. HELP!!!!
