Hi there,
I'm researching Gilroy of Enniskillen & name variations, being MacElroy, MacGillivray,Gilroy to name a few.
My Gr grandmother is Briget Gilroy & some of the above, her father is Matthew Gilroy/ MacGillivray b abt 1823 we think came from scotland, mother is Elizabeth Smyth b abt 1825.
I know Bridget had 3 sisters Annie, Mary Ann & Ellennora we think. They all went to New Zealand & married.
Bridget married John O'Donnell 1876 in 1876. Have come to the brick wall here. Bridgets marriage recorded name was Mc Elroy so took some time to find her marriage record.
Courious on 2 things if they had brothers who went elsewhere,& how Bridget ended up in NZ there are no records of her so we assume she came as a maid/servant of weath. She worked with a doctor in Chrischurch NZ until she married.
Mum is doing the family finder test that follows the female linage as that is direct, mother daughter etc. Finding out about the rest is hard. Do you have any pointers? It would be good if we have a common link, as there didn't seem to be that many Gilroys in Enniskillen in the 1840-70's
My mother had always said her name was MacGillivray, given the times & linguistics Bridgets name took many forms.
