Hello, I just found this old posting concerning the death of a woman, Mrs. Reilly in 1899, nee O'Toole, who was a neice of Dr. McEvilly. I'm wondering if you're related to someone from Archbishop McEvilly's family. I ask because I am searching for my Great Grandmother, who was said to have been related to a Catholic Bishop who was alive when she lived in Ireland; she left in 1876...we know almost nothing about her, but Tuam figures in her family legend...two Archbishops spring to mind in connection with Tuam, John MacHale, and John McEvilly. My Great Grandmother was probably born in Co. Mayo or Co. Galway ca 1838-1848...she was born Bridget McCabe, and married Martin Mulroe/Munroe in 1863 in the RC Church in Donaghpatrick, Galway; we found a Baptismal record for her third Child who was Baptized in Tuam in 1871; a couple named Malia were his Godparents. Bridget McCabe is said to have been an orphan who was raised by her relatives, presumably in Co. Galway. Anything more you might now about the Archbishop McEvilly's siblings and family would be greatly appreciated. I've tried searching online. I know this is a longshot, but I'm grasping at straws right now. Take care now,
Sheila...lunamother@gmail.com (prefer emails)

John,
I have recently discovered that Michael Anthony Callagy was a cousin of my Grandfather James Patrick Horan. His father was Timothy Horan married to Annie Callagy, her father was Patrick and her mother Mary Donohoe from Kilimor, Co. Galway. I have been trying to find Timothy's birthplace. His father was Thomas Horan married to a Delia or Bridget Madden. I found 2 Thomas Horan's in the 1856 Griffiths Valuation. One from Garryad & Garryduff and the other from Treananearla. Both of which are close by. I am sure we are connected. I realize that your's was a post from 2000 and I am in hopes that you will reply.
I do know that Martin was a favorite name in that branch of the family, my cousin Joe's middle name is also Martin.

She had all of her children in Aggard Beg (Greenhouse), Craughwell, Galway.

I have been to Ireland and have birth certificates and parish records for all of her children. Her husband died in Ireland, at which point Julia came to the U.S.

I know nothing of Julia's siblings or parents.

Kevin James Hackett

I know nothing of Julia Mannion's family before marrying Michael Egan.

I do not know if there would be any connection to your James with parents John and Julia, but there are many Julia's descending on our side.

Kevin James Hackett
Seeking information about the descendants of John Wesley Jones (b.Co Westmeath 1833 - d.Clifden 1910) and his wife Sara Jane Lynham (b. Co Tipperary 1843 - d. Youghal Cork 1913). JW Jones was a watchmaker and had a general store in Clifden. There were. I believe, five sons and four daughters born between 1864 - 1879. Would appreciate any information about this family.

I have new information.

Joseph Power was born abt 1886 in County Galway per the 1911 Irish Census. At the time of my grandfather Thomas's birth, the family lived in Cloncoe, Woodford Parish, Galway. My grandfather's local christening certificate (dated 1910) shows his sponsors were Patrick Power and Mary E. Power.

I've found a family on OneWorldTree which is possibly related... a Patrick Joseph Power, son of John Power, living in the same parish and county. My grandfather's older brother was named John, and my grandfather's middle name was Patrick (which isn't saying much, I know, as these are popular names... but names do tend to repeat in families, so maybe I'm onto something). Are you related to this family?

Thanks,
KPV

Joseph's parents were Kieran Power and Elizabeth McDermott, so we are distant cousins. I found this out today via the Register of Baptisms in Woodford/Looscaune Parish, transcribed by Jane Rock Kennedy. After some study, I was able to put together a list of siblings.

Children of KIERAN POWER and ELIZABETH MCDERMOTT:

1.	Elizabeth POWER, b. Dec 25 1865 (bapt. Dec 30 1865)
2.	Margaret POWER, b. Mar 19 1867 (bapt. Mar 30 1867)
3.	Catherine POWER, b. Dec 20 1870 (bapt. Dec 23 1870)
4.	Francis POWER, b. May 3 1872 (bapt. May ?, 1872)
5.	Agnes POWER, b. Nov 21 1873 (bapt. Dec 6 1873)
6.	Thomas POWER, b. Mar 24 1875 (bapt. Apr 19, 1875)
7.	Ellen POWER, b. Aug 24 1876 (bapt. Sep 8 1876)
8.	"Kyran" POWER, b. May 22 1878 (bapt. Jun 14 1878)
9.	Michael POWER, b. May 28 1880 (bapt. May 29 1880)
10.	Joseph POWER, b. Apr 15, 1882 (bapt. Apr. 22, 1882)
11.	Daniel POWER, b. Jul 3 1885 (bapt. Jul 11 1885)

The info for Joseph differs from what I find in the 1911 Irish Census, where his age is given as 25 (meaning he was b. abt 1886). I'm assuming that was an error made by the Census-taker or possibly even Joseph's wife. He's the only Joseph Power to be found in that parish, so he must be the one. It appears Joseph named his second son (my grandfather) after his older brother Thomas. Of course, I will pursue supporting documentation to confirm these conclusions.

A few questions for you:
1. Which of Kieran's/Elizabeth's children do you descend from?
2. Are you in Ireland? Another country?
3. Any redheaded Powers in your family? We have two here in New York.

Best,
Kathleen Powers

Yes, I know -- the marriage certificate I ordered after my last post showed that my Joseph's father's name is Michael, not Kieran. Possibly we are still cousins, but if so we share ancestors at some point further back from the men we now know of. I will continue researching and see if I can find where the family lines may intersect.

KPV

Thank you for your suggestion that Bridget Varley was born in Crumlin. That seems the best match so far.

I have just recieved the birth certificate of one of her children born in England, which lists Bridget's maiden surname as Joyce. Her husband was Patrick Varley.

Bridget would have been born (ca. 1840) and married (ca. 1855-1865) before civil registration (for Catholics) so I am searching for the parish records. The location isn't listed in the Family History Library Catalog though.

Joyce family living at "Crumlin East" Cong 1911 Census, See link attached

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Galway/Cong...

3 Generations Grandmother Mary aged 87 a Widow, Son Martin aged 40 and a Grandaughter Mary.

In The same Area there are also 2 other Mary's aged about 10. So it is possible that their parents Patrick and John were brothers of Martin.

Hi Sarah,

Sorry I haven't replied sooner. I've been on so many boards recently, I can't keep up!

I would love some help! I know we have cousins, Peter and Patrick Donoghue who still live on the Maumeen pier and their neighbor is a Mullen cousin who lives in the house that my gggrandfather Jack was born in. (Actually, they use it as a shed).

Most of the info I have is from other family members and what they collected, but of course, it's not verified and I'm not really sure where to look for obits in Ireland for the erarly 1900's.

Any help you can give me to point me in the right direction or a helpful online source would be wonderful!

I have a Barbara McCANN who was born in 1816 and died in 1901 married to a Patrick DONOHUE (O'Donoghue) who was born in 1811 Maumeen, Lettermore and also died in 1901.

I really don't know where to look to confirm these dates. What i do notice is the name change to O'Donoghue, which i am assuming is something I have to confirm as well. All of the following children have used the O'Donoghue surname.

They had the following children: John, Michael, Thomas, Bridget, Mary, Patrick, and Peter.

John was born in 1853 in Maumeen and died in 1912. He married a Mary Mullen, daughter of Patrick Mullen and Bridget (don't know last name).

John had the following children: Michael, Patrick, John, Coleman, Thomas, Bridget, Mary, Margaret, Anne and Winnie.

Patrick, John's brother, was born in June 5 1856 in Maumeen and died April 3, 1943 in Minnesota. He married Anna Welch who was born November 1, 1865 in Maumeen and died January 8, 1943 in Minnesota. They had a son named Patrick.

I do not have any info on Michael; Thomas was born in 1847 and died in 1917 and married a Bridget Higgins; Bridget was born in 1848 and married a FAHERTY; Mary born in 1851 married Patrick COONEY; Peter born 1961 married a Mary HERNON.

SUMMERVILLE/SOMMERVILLE/HOLLERAN GALWAY

I am looking for info on a John Summerville or Sommerville who married Honor Holleran between 1840-1870 in Galway possibly Clonbur. I know they had 2 sons Martin and Patrick who in the late 1800s moved to County Durham in England and i think they had more children possibly Catherine, honor, Thomas and more children but not 100% on this. I know Patrick married Catherine Mannion in 1900 in Clonbur and i know that Martin and Patrick were both born in Clonbur but any info what so ever on that family would be really appreciated, thank you. My email is renedrag@hotmail.com
