Children were usually in regular/National schools by 5 and leaving at 14.
Too bad he misses the 1911 Census.
Kerry records for bmd's try
www.irishgenealogy.ieSt. Joseph's-Tralee is online with records about child abuse as it had a industrial school almost from opening.
The school built on the property which opened 1862 and used like a regular school and then the added industrial school was added in 1870 and was used similarily like a workhouse or place for juvenile offenders and was still operating in 1969. Commission looking into child abuse 2005-2006.
From other such inquiries sometimes children were just put there by their parents if they couldn't handle them, or afford to feed them.
There must be records of the school and students or inmates.
Also records of complaints, I doubt the commission is still running but there must be documents. Possibly the National Library or the Kerry Library-local studies.
