Mathias Rickard, born 1808 in Dublin, died 1892 in Trim, County Meath married Ann Nolan in Carlow in 1843. He was a governor/attendant in various lunatic asylum around Ireland, notably Wexford, Dublin, perhaps Carlow, and ended up in Killarney where he spent many years and had children called Kate, Mathias, Maria and James. I can account for most of his children but all we know about James was that he was born in Killarney in 1861 and "lost his life in the U.S.A." and went blind at one stage. Also, Mathias' wife, Ann, was matron in some of the asylums. She died in Killarney between 1861 and 1875 but we have no proof on that.
