It is firmly believed that the first family of Munster Ashes came from Co. Kildare, possibly Naas, which may mean "from Ashe" or Parc na aghasag, (near Straffan, Kildare), which may mean
"park of the Ashes". They came to Murreigh. The first recorded Ashe in St. Vincent's church, in Ballyferriter, is Gregory, my great great great great Grandfather. He married Johanna Walsh on Feb. 15,1808.There are no records of his birth, as they don't go back that far.He must have been born around 1780.Their children include, Matthew born Nov.15,1808 ( my great great great Grandfather), Gregory, born Jan. 26,1811 (died an infant)
