Hi, I am researching my grandfather John Sullivan who was born in Kilkeaveragh in 1871. His parents were John (from Kilkeaveragh) and Honora (own name Sullivan) originally from Valentia. My grandfather had a sister who married a cousin of a Foley from Kilkeaveragh and who supposedly died in a gas explosion in New York. Grandpa left home and joined the R.I.C.in 1892 and died in Cork in 1971. One of his daughters, my mum, is still alive and hearty at the age of 100.I am unable to find out what Kerry/U.S.A.family connections he might have had as he did not talk much about them. His mother was still in Kilkeaveragh at the time of the 1911 census.
