Hi Kate,
your post caught my eye. I often wonder when I see postings like yours.

You have so much information. So Many siblings to your Grandfather Patrick Joseph Guerin.

I think for me,reading your query,
What you already know, and what is missing

Do you have information on the other siblings already?

Eleven childen born to James Guerin and Mary Heffernan? Do you know anything about those ten siblings?

Have you checked out the 1901 census for that area?
That might add to your information.

check out the Irish phone book

http://www.eircomphonebook.ie/search.ds

Hi... I saw your message at the ancestry.com board from 1999 and hope you are still around.

I'm Kate, ne Kathleeen Guerin. I'm researching my great grandparents, James Guerin and Mary Heffernan. They were married and had eleven children, christened at St Marys in Listowel, Co Kerry. The time span of children was from 1860s thru 1880s. My Grandfather was Patrick Joseph Guerin. His siblings were Maurice, Joseph, John, Michael, Denis, Hannah, Ellen, Daniel, and James (the first Patrick died).

I found my great grandparents again in the 1911 census. They were still living in "urban" Listowel. Their daughter Ellen was also living with them with her son. I can't wait until I can get my hands on the 1901 census.

Do we have a possible connection? I'm leaving Ancestry for a few months to complile and organize my findings. Please contact me at katema@aol.com. Thanks.

Kate 11-10-2009

I am also looking for a Maurice Joseph Horan. I know he lived in Cook Illinois. He was married to Edith. He was also a dentist. They adopted a daughter which her name is Mary Edith she also passed away. So I don't have access to any more information. One thing I can't forget was the family crest and family motto, "Fides non Timet" Maurice past away about 20 years in California.

A new twist since I last wrote you.

Read to-day, that the Bishop of Kerry has handed over
the parish records to the IGP.
read about it here
in this week's on line version of
The Kingdom newspaper
http://www.the-kingdom.ie/news/story/?trs=mhkfidqloj

This latest handover of parish records might change things,
where writing to the parish directly is concerned.

Perhaps you can follow up too, the English side of the family. Check the census records on line for the UK.
What religion was the groom?
do you know.

It might give that on the census at
www.familysearch.org

for the U.K.

Keep me posted
all the best
KerryKate

Maurice O'Connell

My great grandparents were Maurice O'Connell and Cathrine Ward. They supposedly migrated from CO. Kerry. They arrived in W. Gwillenbury, Simcoe, ONtario Canada about 1849. I cannot find them in Ireland. They had a 6 month old daughter, Margaret, (who was named for Cathrines mother, Margaret Moylan). The baby died and was buried at sea. Some of their children were Timothy, Cornelius, Catherine, and Mary Ann (our line). Mary Anne married John James Mangan in Duluth MN. about 1890. Can anyone help?
Thanks, Jean Mangan, jandjmang@gmail.com
I see you posted a HANNAH MOYNIHAN. I have a greatgrandmother, ANNE MOYNIHAN, married to JAMES JOHN MANGAN. Born about 1834 in CO. Kerry. Her parents were TIMOTHY MOYNIHAN AND SARAH TALBERT/TALBOT. Do you have anything more on the Moynihans or any of the above people?
Thank you, Jean

Brendan,
Sorry it took me so long to respond. I didn't get a notice that there was a reply.

Thank you for the information. Now I have identified these children of Daniel Counihan and Mary Shea:

Margaret, Nov 1859
Mary, 9 Jun 1860
Johana, 2 Mar 1868 (spelled Counehan)
James, 1 Sep 1869
Debora, 4 Apr 1871 (died 1871)
Daniel, 3 Aug 1872
Debora, 13 Nov 1875 (spelled Counehan)
Daniel, 5 Aug 1884

I was told by someone else to look for Killarney Parish records in O'Kief Volumes 7 & 8 but I have not been able to find that. It apparently gives the townland as Cluindonegan and the closest I've found to that is Cloonydonigan. I don't know how to find out what church they were baptized in, though. I do know they were Catholic.

I'm looking for connection between the Sayers/Sears family of Ventry and my Malone Family from Rahinnane West, Ventry.

My Great Grandfather was Patrick W. Malone and he was born March 17, 1859 to William and Elizabeth (Connor) Malone of Rahinnane West. William is estimated to have been born around 1825 to 1828.

Verbal history has William the son of John Malone and a Miss Sayers/Sears (first name unknown). They would have married around the 1820 time period from what has been figured making John Malone born around 1797 +/- a year or two and Miss Sayers (if verbal history is correct) born around 1800 +/- a year or two.

Is there anyone aware of a Malone-Sayers/Sears connection in the Ventry area? Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Re: John Williams & Eliza McCarty from Castleisland

Hi Mike- I never have been able to find their parents. I do know that John was born in 1812 and died in 1836 in Castleisland, County Kerry. Eliza also died young - born Feb 1815 and died 1838 in Castleisland. They started their family when they were both very young: John was 19 and Eliza was 16. John died the same year Stephen was born and Eliza died when he was 2. I don't know where the children lived after they were orphaned.

I'd love information on William's ("Wirt's") descendants. I only have three daughters for him (Minnie, Crystal, and Nellie), but since you are a Williams there must have been at least one son.

Here are some direct sources I've found on Stephen. You may have it already:

Stephen Williams Dead
[From a Clinton County, Iowa paper]
This morning Wednesday Feb. 23 at 2 O'clock occurred the death of Stephen Williams at the home of his daughter Mrs. Lorena Broderson at the age of 80 years 18 days. His death was caused by an infection of the jaw with which he had been afflicted for the past year. he was able to be up and around most of the time being confined to his bed only since Tuesday. The subject of our sketch was born in Castle Island, Kerry County, Ireland Feb. 6 1836. He taught school for a few years in Ireland. He came to this country landing in New York June 27, 1854, and came direct to this vicinity. Nov. 9. 1859 was married to Miss Elizabeth Jane Case of Indiana who passed away Sept. 20, 1892. Since the death of his wife he made his home with children at Rockwell City up to eight months ago when he came to stay with his daughter Mrs. Boothby and coming up to his daughters Mrs. Broderson ten days ago. In August 1862 he enlisted in Co. J 26 Infantry Iowa but was not accepted because of physical disability. Mr. Williams was the father of ten children eight survive him namely Mrs. L. E. Marshall Rockwell City, Mrs. Lorena Broderson Charlotte, Mr. Joseph Williams, Des Moines, Mrs. Mary Boothby, Goose Lake, Mr. Waldo Williams, Rockwell City, Mrs. Gertrude Prentice, Sheldon, Mr. Obadiah Williams, Emmetsburg, Mrs. Jane Robb Garden City, S.D. He also leaves forty three grandchildren and nine great grandchildren living. He was one of the oldest settlers of this vicinity, he was a pioneer instructor of schools in eastern Iowa having taught fifty two years and came to this country when it was young before there was any Charlotte. Many of the old and middle aged residents of this town were his pupils. The records of his pioneer teaching were not kept. In conversation with the deceased a few years ago in speaking of things he was up against as a country teacher in early days he informed us that he and his pupils had to cut trees down, hew the trunks into slabs for seats and desks and at times had to manufacture his own ink from Sumac bark and his pens from goose quills and burning the midnight candle to keep ahead of his pupils. When a young man he united with the Christian church remain a faithful member unto the end. he was a poet of more than local fame. Served as road supervisor and was secretary of school ward more than twenty years. Interment in McClure cemetery, the funeral was held at his daughter's house in Charlotte Saturday at eleven o'clock.

Edith Benner (granddaughter to Stephen Williams, and raised by Stephen's daughter-in-law, Edith Crouch Williams.) passed down oral information that Stephen Williams had a brother come with him to the United States, but then continued on to New Zealand.

"My Eightieth Birthday"
by Stephen Williams

Fantastic, fugitive fancies,
Feebly framed, for friends and kins,
Flitting feelingly across my
Mental horizon, Feb. 5th, 1915,
On my eightieth birthday.

Upheld by Jehovah's power divine,
I've safely crossed arch seventy nine.
Now, my feet once so nimble, light and gay,
Feel like heavy, sodden lumps of clay.

Yes, and sometimes they feel so weighty
I ask can or will they bear me o'er arch eighty?
Or will they totter, stumble, slip and glide
Into some pitfall hidden by its side?
And land me on the other shore
To live with millions who have gone before?
Will they drop through the impalpable mist which lies
Hidden from mortal, human, prying eyes?

Will my eyes be immersed in ebon night;
Or will they behold celestial light
Emanating from the Lamb's throne on high?
'Fore which I'll praise Him through eternity!
Will I into outer darkness be cast
When all my labors on this earth are past?

But he has said to you and me
"That as your day, your strength shall be."
His word's a lamp to weary, wand'ring feet,
Trav'ling o'er mountain, plain or street;
Yes, 'tis a guide to every pilgrim's head,
Whose radiance round our way is shed.
What! tho my feet grow weary, my heart sad,
His living presence with me, makes me glad!

Oh! years, oh years! you swiftly speed away!
Dancing with Folly on her gilded way!
Or hustling for wealth in this our busy age,
Or studious as a scientist or sage.
Delving into mines, crossing the ocean's deep
Searching through caves where slimy monsters sleep.
No matter what you may be doing
Time still onward is His way pursuing.

But I do not mourn over vanished happy years gone by,
Will all their pleasures, labors, hopes and tears and joy.
With all their ambition, all the hope, joy and tears
That crossed my pathway during all these years.

Yes, happy mem'ries of the past before me rise,
Thinking of friends and wife, of girls and boys,
While I lift the curtain, Thank God! I still can trace
The lineaments of each dear loved ones face!

I look again, who do I see,
A boy, beside his mother's knee,
And while she talked, she looked and smiled
On her young, happy, thoughtless child.
The lessons she taught me are engraven still--
They're fadeless, imperishable on my mind and will,
And my stern father, strict, just and true,
Taught me that I must always do
Things that were honest, noble and true,
As oft I the wrong path trod
He followed Solomon and used the rod.
Dear sainted mother, you in heaven I'll meet,
And all the loved ones gone before I'll greet!

With books I've spent many studious days
Learning 'bout Wisdom's pleasant ways,
Learned 'bout the Wisdom whose ways are Pleasantness and Peace
I'll follow it till time gives me surcease,
Yea, down to the grave where I shall shortly lie
With unnumbered millions of humanity!

Solomon said "Vanity of Vanities."
On this mundane sphere there's naught but Vanity!
Had I indulged in earth's vices and banalities,
I, too, would exclaim that all is Vanity!

I cannot believe 'twas Vanity in me
To play with my dear children on my knee,
Nor do I grudge the toil I did endure,
Life's comforts for them to procure.
I know the Good Book some place tells
If we fail to provide, we're worse than infidels
Who are as unfeeling as the stocks or stones
And act like sponges and live like drones.

So calmly, patiently, trustingly my journey I'll pursue
Till Paradise's gates ope to my raptured view
and trust Him, Who's the Way, the Truth, the Life,
During the duration of my Mundane Life!

Thank God! tho I've not honor, wealth or fame,
That in the Lamb's Book you'll find my name.
This story of me can be writ and told,
I've never wished or sought or striven for gold.
I've hosts of friends I love and cherish,
Kindred who'll not let my name perish.

I thank God for long life to me lent
To make earth better is life's intent,
And give a good account of talents to me lent.

Some will think in me 'tis egotistical
To write a birthday poem so fantastical.
Tho while composing it I enjoyed a Vision
Comforting, cheering, like a field Elysian.

I'm looking for information on Martin and Mary (Dineen) Lacey. Martin was born in 1832, possibly in Kilkerry. His wife, Mary was born in 1844, not sure where in Ireland.

They came to the US seperately in the 1860's and were married in Upstate New York in 1875. Martin had a brother, Patrick, and a sister, Ann.

I was told that Martin was from Kilkerry, but I can't confirm that with any records I've found.

Anyone think they have any of these leaves on their tree??

Kerrykate! I am so, so grateful for this. What a star you are, I never expected this. Im wondering if Hanora was illigitimate and Bessie Johnstone was her mothers name, who later married but was originally a Neligan. Possibly, I dont know. As you say it's odd... I'll write to Maureen today, thankyou so much for doing this! God bless you.

My interest is Honoria (or Hanora) Neligan from Tralee, Co Kerry who married Joseph Edward Durden in Tralee in 1881. He was an English soldier, and they moved over to England by March 1883. I estimate Honoria/Hanora was born about 1860-ish.

There is a civil registration for the marriage of a Joseph Edward Durden and Hanora Nelligan Tralee Oct Dec 1881 in the Irish civil registration index at http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#placeI...
Have you got a copy of this as it should show Hanora's fathers name and her residence (if not in Tralee town) and you could try parish records for her baptismal date and also if any siblings etc.

Clare
