Surnames: Colmey Colmy Colmay
When searching the web, I came across an article a while back saying that Colmey was a rare name and originated in County Kildare, so I think you're definitely onto something with the Griffith Valuation record. Do you think it means Eliza and John were James' parents? My James Colmey's first son was James E and I've suspected E was for Edward, who is also on the Valuation record. A brother, perhaps?

I did find the census record for Christopher in Albany, as well as some under other spellings of the name, including a passenger manifest for James Colmay aboard the ship Fidelia. But nothing I can comfortably say is proven, as the birth dates are different on about every record...
